@w3c Do these still go through #Cloudflare, or are these really for everyone this time?#OpenWeb #W3C

@w3c Given that @cloudflare has once more made it impossible to pass their test on #SeaMonkey and (from what others are saying) #PaleMoon, is your position still that pointing out this problem is negative?1/2#OpenWeb

@w3c (2/2) I apologize if focusing on this problem is not welcome. Also, I suspect only certain requests are directed to the check, but, not knowing the settings on your side, I have no way to confirm that or know the available workarounds.Do you have a position or statement on why you're using #CloudFlare and about how you ensure the services are still usable despite any problems on CF's side?

@foone No, no, no, you got this wrong, shell history, browser profile with search history, passwords, this is all intentional, it's: XDThat stands for eXtreme Documentation, where you just ship everything so that there's context for every line of code and every setting. The web browser searches? These replace in-code/in-config comments. The sshpass part? That's intended to make it fully reproducible.

@hj @kkarhan @radmin @SuperDicq One wonders how did people manage to use the web before webapps became a thing, or before any JavaScript. There's also the angle that, nowadays, instead of forms, one might end up with a heavy "web application", that's *much heavier* that it'd be if it were native, and that's probably part of the criticism out there.

@thelastpsion Not an expert on this, but any chance it's just not the right version? I don't know how strict XP is with matching product keys to different builds (the SPs, the FLP version, and also the different architectures).Besides setupp.ini, my guess would be that if it were just the install medium not being prepared to use SLIC for a given OEM key, it'd accept the key but request activation?

@mattdm @vkc Some trains do it too!"Do you want to service this train with the manufacturer's maintenance service? [Yes] [Remind me later]"https://social.hackerspace.pl/@selfisekai/111539961891472661(The only joke here is there being some interface for this, the bricking down of trains is not a joke, see #NewagGate, #Trainsomware.)

@th I have to concur with @w that your comment sounds a bit off. Why "the nerds"? This kind of stupidity is most often pushed by business people in suits. See Logitech mice and HP inkjet printers. This is a kind of abuse and stupidity people who have a passion for technology (which I'd term more geek than nerd but I digress) probably don't have much patience for.(1/2)Cc: @vkc

(2/2)Why does a dishwasher needs mandatory wireless firmware upgrades? (Also raises interesting questions about the failure modes, of course...)

@vkc Is there already a name for this UI design paradigm where the choice is between "Yes" and "Later", with no "Never"?

@thelastpsion As someone who doesn't know the code at hand (and GitHub now also makes it impossible to browse repositories without checking out...), my first question is "What is the nullptr and should it be there?".

@internetarchive @brewsterkahleIs there any possibility of hope that a result of this is a more usable archive.org with less reliance on js?(Not that the solution ought to be "ditch js framework", really just commenting on how the current js use harms usability and compatibility (especially when less common js features are in use).)#OpenWeb

@feditips @kkarhan Let's replace hashtags with a field that denotes the "topics" under which a post should be broadcast. The topic names can follow a hierarchical structure, with . as depth separators, say, something general about GNU/Linux might go with "comp.os.linux.misc". Something about retrocomputing could be tagged "alt.folklore.computers".

@feditips @kkarhan The list can be colon-separated to denote different topics. Maybe also with a different field to signal that perhaps replies should go only under a narrower set of topics.(I assure you it's entirely and purely a coincidence that the paragraph above was not included in the previous post!)

@feditips I'm honestly surprised that I'm not seeing widespread use of text as images with alt text to at least get more chars in Mastodon. (AFAIK, alt text has a larger limit, more than twice the post limit, and the image itself of course won't enforce any limit, other than possibly applying lossy compression)#Mastodon
