New research says that more than one out of every five videos YouTube suggests to new people is "AI junk or slop" These are low-quality videos made by AI just to get clicks and views. They checked the top 100 channels in every country and found that 278 of them post nothing but this computer made junk generating about $117m a year for channel owners. In 1991, a uni student from Finland started a "hobby" project because he couldn't afford to pay expensive Unix license that could run on a commodity hardware. At the time, he told on the mailing list that his project wouldn't be anything "big or professional."It turned out that he was totally wrong. This chart shows the total number of Stack Overflow questions asked each month. As you can see, AI summaries in Google and AI coding tools have nearly killed the site. It is only a matter of time before the site shuts down completely. The golden age of independent news, blogs, forums, and specialized sites like Stack Overflow is over. Whether this is good or bad, only time will tell. Independent sites cannot compete with companies like Google, Microsoft, or OpenAI, which have unlimited money. Even Wikipedia has mentioned this problem. They are losing a massive amount of traffic from Google. These AI apps do not give credit or send users back to the original source on the web. As a result, people are stopped from creating new Q&A or editing and adding information to Wikipedia.
