@selea Happy to send along. Thank you for the advice and checking over. Im sure its a typo/misconfig somewhere. I spent almost an hour looking at smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/saml_passwe (instead of passwd). Where can I send? Nothing super private but probably not best in a Toot. My email is nick@hackermonkey.com, or should I put on pastebin or something? (here comes the spam!)

I am being asked by a security company to stand up an EoL version of a Linux distro for their platform. 🤦‍♂️ How did I get to this point in my life? I hate it.

I am convinced that people confuse the end of life dates of CentOS 8 and CentOS 8 Stream on purpose. Just to muddy the waters. I'm now being told that CentOS 8 was EoL in Dec of 2021 so instead lets go with CentOS 7.3. :headdesk:

Sometimes I just admit defeat and go back to a solution I know works. I deployed Zabbix with Nginx. Worked great but the interface ran http on 8080. No matter how I configued TLS and proxy_pass (443->8080) it kept failing with "FastCGI stderr Primary Script Unknown". I wiped and rebuilt the server with Apache. Works fine now and I force https. I like Nginx but sometimes it makes me nuts with its options.

@selea The entire site works correctly using php-fpm when running on port 8080. Its a big old php app, so I'm pretty sure that part is correct. If there is something I need to do to php-fpm when ALSO doing a proxy_pass from one port to another, that is likely not right. Interestingly, I did spin up a 2nd server (Apache) and proxy to 1st host nginx 8080 just fine, so it might be a "all this is on one box" problem. Ill repeat and try two separate hosts both nginx and report back!

Today I configured my smtp host to allow a vendors software to relay off it. "Won't work, need an exchange mailbox". No, you send email. You don't need a mailbox. "Tried it, wont work, need a mailbox." Ugh, right there in your software it says "SMTP Host" and "TLS" I can see it in your manual. No mailbox needed. "Nope, need a mailbox." Hopefully I can get this squared away next week. How is it IT people don't now the difference between sending mail and receiving mail?

@b00ga I think @mwl needs to invent a service where you can anonymously send one of his books to someone with pages highlighted and a note like "Read this, dumbass".

Throwing a hail mary. Anyone I know working with php and oci8 for oracle? Just built two boxes following Red Hat instructions, one with php8 and one with php 8.1. Both using 'Oracle Instant Client', and can connect using sqlplus. No errors on building/loading php-fpm but both give the same error "undeclared function oci_connect()". I am not a php programmer or a oracle dba, just a stuck in the middle sysadmin. #monday #php #oracle

@ParadeGrotesque Thanks for the reply. Nope. All linux x86_64. sqlplus will connect. php will not. I think I've narrowed it down to a tnsnames.ora problem but no idea how to set the environment var in php-fpm.conf. The OLD (RHEL7, PHP5) had some environment vars set in /etc/sysconfig/httpd

This seems like a question someone here would have an answer to. I am looking for an opensource task tracking app (for home type tasks) that allows images & text. I've just been using vi and text files, which works, but was thinking I would like to add images. I use CherryTree at work (under windows) but wondering if there are good alternatives suited for tasks versus note taking.

There is a clear red flag of when IT departments shift from "happy workplace" to "time to start job hunting." That time is when User Services starts denying equipment requests. Not because they don't have the hardware, but because they deem you "Not worthy" of it. Today my student worker (at my request) was denied a second monitor because "We don't give part time employees two monitors". Walking around the IT area anyone can see that is 100% not true. I protested. From the depths of IT hell closet someone found a 27" 1080p monitor. So sure, he has two now, but mismatched resolutions. (Personally that makes me so nuts I'd rather just have 1) I went into an empty cube, it was an employee that had left TWO YEARS AGO, and got my student worker two matching monitors. I have no doubt I will get called to carpet on this. How dare I interfere with a display of cruel authority?! Tonight I apply for grad school, and redo my resume. #it #highered #work

Is there such a thing as a USB to 50 pin SCSI adapter? I have a HD from a Mac SE/30, before I destroy it I wonder if there is anything on it? Its the drive from my wife's Mac when we met and got married so umm.. its old. I know Linux could read these formats years ago, not sure if that is still the case. #RetroComputing #RetroMac
