@stux I am not tech savvy at all, so I don’t want to imply that I understand the inner workings of social media, either federated like mastodon or a single uniform package like Twitter, but that seems really close to heading down an algorithm or verified route. I for one don’t want accounts pushed in my face because they’re “different” or “special”. I’m different than everyone else here, too. I’m just not famous.

This is a true story. I’d been on #mastodon about three days, still trying to decipher this strange new world. Kept seeing #fedi this and #fedi that and I’m like WTF is a fedi? Then I saw #fediverse and was like uh, ok. Whatever THAT means. As I finally figure out how the different servers relate to each other and what it all means, I thought this ACTUAL thought, “oh, like in Star Wars where they all govern independently but hang together in the federation…. Oh.” 🤦🏼♀️
