So far, the only #PinePhone OS that consistently and constantly is able to send and receive phone calls and text messages that I've found, has been @mobian - unstable branch (based on #debian of course)As far as I'm concerned, these two things are far more important than any other "feature" or "fad". A #phone, at its absolute core, should be a phone. If you can't get that right, then your priorities might need reassessing.#Software is important, yes. Not at the expense of developing core functions. Bells and whistles are fun though, I love them too.While #Mobian is lagging other distros in terms of technology and overall development, it seems to me, that their focus on getting the basics right is going to make it a formidable #OS in the future.Well done team. @devinprater I'm sorry to hear of this. Unfortunately for your friend, the #Pinephone is still listed as a beta product, and you can't blame @PINE64 for something they have no control over. They only manufacture the hardware, they don't develop the OS'. There is also a clear and highlighted warning on the Pinephone product page "Beta Limited Edition PinePhones are aimed solely at early adopters. More specifically, only intend for these units to find their way into the hands of users with extensive Linux experience."The @mobian team on the other hand, are not only a small independent team of developers, but they are also further behind other projects who are working on Phone OS', like Manjaro etc. They only just had their upstream distro release a major version, so they're working at pace to keep up. As a point of interest, it's not #Mobian at fault either. #Phosh is the default "desktop" used by Mobian, which is developed by #Purism I think. They would be the ones to approach about accessibility issues. I see you've posted a link to the GitLab, that's about all you can do, short of contributing to the development directly.While I feel for your friend, the onus is on the user to research the product they're purchasing. The warning was given, and I'm not sure if it could have been made more clear. OS development is still in the very early stages.

My first #askfedi!Who knows of simple, open source, low resource tools that can run in #docker without excessive configuration or building? Pulling from #dockerhub or something similar is ideal. Trying to avoid anything with java script, and anything that is too front end heavy (read "too much dynamic content; images; embeds; css, etc", I'm aiming for almost brutalist or spartan, but fully functional)Things I'm looking for (#selfhosted of course)- an #anonymous file dump/share with file size limits, encrypted file storage, and server enforced timed file destruction- encrypted #chat, user registration without email, low resource usage. Support for file transfers. I'm thinking #XMPP, maybe #MatterMost. #Synapse/Element is just far too heavy. Web front end would be a bonus.- #ActivityPubSub compatible social networking server. Initially I was interested in #Pleroma for this, but configuration in docker requires building and fairly comprehensive configuration. Also looking for something that is supported by mobile and desktop clients. I think #SSB (Secure Scuttlebutt) might be the only option at this stage. (#Mastodon and #Misskey are far too resource intensive)- a simple way to either deploy #Lemmy, or an alternative that works simply with a quick docker-compose (I don't mind a couple of docker containers, but 4x containers including a reverse proxy, is just excessive)Any other #suggestions for #privacy respecting self hosted tools and utilities that require minimal resources, are also welcomed!Thanks!

Further to my previous post, I have come up with some apps already, that are funtioning really well over #Tor:- #SearX (meta search engine)- #Invidious (YouTube front end)- #Lufi (encrypted/anon file share)- #Nitter (Twitter front end)- #Teddit (Reddit front end)- #0bin (Zero knowledge pastebin)Still missing a good #Chat server, and #SocialNetworking Server.@snikket_im - Thanks for the heads up about your apps/server, unfortunately, as it's being served over Tor, it is quite complicated to do with the tools that have been provided on your website. I did attempt it, but the docker containers became quite confusing and complicated, and in the end, it all collapsed. If I were to run it on the ClearNet, I would definitely contemplate it though. Thanks again for your help!

@protonmail - I know you guys have copped a lot of flak over the last few weeks over the IP Address of the Climate Activist thing. But it raises a question that I think is rather important about #personal #security.You've mentioned that everyone should use the #Tor #Onion for accessing #Protonmail, if they're overly #concerned about privacy. That's a reasonable point, but the question is:When will your #Mobile Applications and Bridge have the option to #route their traffic directly to the onion address, so the connection never leaves the Tor network?If the connection leaves Tor, it is possible to track the user via a correlation attack. Yes, it is an expensive, and time consuming attack, but still within the realm of possibility, if 3 letter agency were adequately motivated.
