@hp@mastodon.tmm.cx I found the issue! I was getting the rinfo.address (remote client address) as a mapped dual stack address (::ffff:1.2.3.4). I have to drop the ::ffff: prefix when writing the reply. Then the packets make it back to the client! :)

So the #YouTube app for our TV has an on-screen keyboard that is already terrible otherwise, but it does not have the buttons for ä, ö, and å on it!? The only choice for Finnish is "Finnish (English input)". The only way to get those letters is to choose the Swedish keyboard, but that also changes the texts for "space", "reset", and "search", and more importantly changes the language used for the search suggestions! How this passed any kind of QA is beyond me.#internationalization #i18n #accessibility

My #PetPeeve for today: people who tag music wrong (typos, wrong capitalisation, adding "[disc 1]" to the album name…) and upload those results to Gracenote. Tagging music is serious business, people!

Btw, when you tag music in Finnish, you don't capitalise every word! Stop doing that! Grr!

Photo from our local newspaper. The caption is "Large ad stands take up space on the street."

@tml@urbanists.social The article is about these ad stands taking space away from pedestrians, but ironically in the first two photos most of the space is taken by cars.

Days since a v0.x library has broken environments that rely on SemVer: 0.Don't do zero-versioning, please. If you intend to use SemVer, use SemVer. I don't mind if your 1.0.0 quickly turns into 2.0.0 and 3.0.0 since the design was finished. I do mind when my environment breaks because a function was removed in a minor bump in a zero-ver dependency.#SemVer

@susie@blob.cat That's not just an "imo", it's the SemVer spec (https://semver.org). :) But SemVer also defines 0.x.y as "all bets are off", which was a mistake. There's no safe way to use zero-versions.

Honestly I think we're screwed. Maybe I had some hope years ago, but after all that time from what I see around me, we're not going to do any significant changes that are needed.I see people still flying to vacations, meetups, work stuff... A person I know flew south to be in the sun and then complained how hot it was. Meanwhile I'm contemplating if taking a 2-day bus/train ride is worth it to get to central Europe. Financially it makes no sense as flying is so subsidised that it's cheaper to fly to Europe. And booking it is a pain in the behind. There has been some progress in diets, as we have a lot more plant based options available, but overall the numbers are not enough. At least I'm not usually getting ridiculed for my choices anymore. But being the only person ordering a vegan or vegetarian option in a large group tells me everything I need to know.I bike to work year round and get admiring comments from people when it's raining or snowing or freezing outside. But honestly, for an able bodied person it's not such a huge deal to do. It's a hassle, sure, but in terms of personal sacrifices, for me it's a really easy choice to make. Meanwhile we have lowered the tax on petrol and have pretty much regulated ethanol cars out of existence. Biogas barely hanging on, and electric cars are too expensive. Any improvements for cycling infrastructure and for example trams in my city face fierce resistance, but there's always a need for more parking space. The attitude of the people in my life on climate change range mostly from "I don't believe it exists" to "it's not our fault and we can't do anything about it" to "I don't think about it at all". Gotta love the jokes about climate change when it's -20°C outside, but when we're making new temperature records monthly or when it's 25°C in flipping early May, then it's always some other reason or just "nice and we should enjoy it". God forbid you try to mention the reasons behind the changes in the climate, then you're the ideological one and a spoilsport. And it's not like I'm perfect. I make bad choices all the time. But it feels like at least I'm doing something, and what I get for it is reduced opportunities, extra hassle, and sometimes ridicule. I'd love to go to the alps for a skiing trip, or fly to Europe to a BEAM meetup or FOSDEM. Getting to experience an Airbus A380 would be so cool. And you know, plenty of times that plant based food has been subpar and I've looked at my friend's lunch with envy (recently less though). That's the nature of sacrifices, they suck. But what am I doing them for if it's all going to shit anyway?I don't know how to end this properly, since it's just a thought dump. But don't tell me about your flight to the Azores and expect me to be happy for you.

@organicmaps@fosstodon.org @ponda@mastodon.online There are barriers on both sides of the intersection withbarrier=cycle_barrierbicycle=dismountMaybe that affects routing. But such a barrier should be passable with bicycle.

@organicmaps@fosstodon.org @ponda@mastodon.online I'm not much of an OSM mapper, but https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:barrier=cycle%20barrier?uselang=en#Standard_bicycle_access says that bicycle=dismount means "barrier prevents users of normal bicycles from riding through, but you can push a bike through". So if the routing is broken due to the barrier, I'd consider that a bug. Because you can get through the barrier with a bike.

Aika harvassa on pienimmän sallitun nopeuden määräävät kyltit.

Since #Firefish is becoming unmaintained, I need to find new fedi instance software. My choices as I understand them:- Some similar Misskey fork such as #Sharkey, #Iceshrimp (but they're ongoing a rewrite?), something else..? Advantage is that in theory I can migrate my current instance without having to create a new fedi identity. But the risk is that the next fork will also become unmaintained due to lack of developers.- #Akkoma. It's faster and lighter than #Mastodon, but I don't like the default UI and would use the Glitch-soc multi-column UI. I don't know if that works without issues on it, but it seems to be bundled in? Also don't know how active Akkoma is.- Mastodon. It's apparently heavy to run (no experience), but overwhelmingly the most supported and the most likely to be maintained into the future. Downside (which Akkoma also has) is that I need to create a new fedi identity, as apparently other instances won't accept me just switching to Mastodon and keeping the same identity. That would be some hassle, especially as my old Fosstodon/GenServer.social accounts point to my current identity, which would disappear (maybe I could set up a redirect with Caddy).- GoToSocial. This is very unknown to me, and it doesn't come with a UI?- Something else?Thoughts?#SelfHosting #FediAdmins #FediMeta

@aliceif@mkultra.x27.one Oh, that's a bummer. I post in two languages and I need to tag them for my followers. I wonder if Sharkey has that? Since they have a migration guide from Firefish.

@susie@blob.cat @aliceif@mkultra.x27.one Firefish actually has a pretty nifty feature, where it tries to detect the language you wrote in and suggests if you've chosen the wrong option. Sometimes it suggests something silly but it's saved me a couple of times.Okay, Sharkey does not have per post language setting yet. :( https://activitypub.software/TransFem-org/Sharkey/-/issues/253So Sharkey is out of the running.

@susie@blob.cat @aliceif@mkultra.x27.one This would have been a working idea if it had been adopted, but it's too late for that. Other software like Mastodon expect to find the language information and it affects things such as translations and the language that a screen reader uses to read a message. That's why I don't want to just hashtag it.I used to use separate accounts for Finnish and English before Firefish supported the language setting, but I don't want to go back to that, it was cumbersome.
