@post @markmcelroyFor those who came across this post, please understand that this bears no resemblance to Logseq dev team viewpoint. Afaik, they don't go around touting about the "culture" of FOSS.Regarding the complaints about Logseq. All are valid. Check it for yourself: Join the Discord server and search for people's complaints about bugs or performance. Or check the bug history on GitHub after every new update released.

@post I can agree with you that the project can be better. Could you write a Github issue with a few suggestions on how they can better understand FOSS to make the project more successful?I've raised many issues over more than a year when I used Logseq extensively: reporting bugs and giving lots of feedback. I've exhausted everything I can think of. If you have something new to contribute I think they'd really appreciate it.

@post okay now I have some idea of the FOSS culture you're talking about, and indeed it is very different from my experience with the Logseq community.I have quite a bit of fear about Logseq especially with the recent demise of Athens and Dendron. But it was so slow I abandoned it anyway so I'm not as invested in it as I used to be.

Hi @post. Apparently you're blocked by mastodon.social? Can't find any of your post using my mastodon.social account. Was trying to find your previous post about Logseq and found out that I can't search for you on mastodon.social anymore.

@post Okay I've read through it. It talked about how qoto.org was removed from the directory on joinmastodon. But qoto.org isn't blocked by mastodon.social. It's your account that is blocked specifically. The article does not explain that right?

@post @stefan Do you mind explaining why and what ways you think SiYuan would be like Logseq?I'm hoping that with a different funding structure (bootstrapped vs. VC-funded) SiYuan would become a real contender in this space. They are doing many things right regarding communication, managing GitHub issues, building community, very much similar to Obsidian.I think they're already really big in China, it's just the language barrier that we don't yet know all its capabilities (or limitations).

@jmbmkn @post @logseq @ednico Athens and Dendron are dead. The chance of someone who will fork Logseq and develop it separately from the team is near 0.

@post Thanks. I agree I'm too fixated on their funding for no good reason. I re-read your list and you're right to think that SiYuan can be like Logseq. We'll see then.

@catominor it's in private beta. I'm on the waitlist. Have you used it yet? I believe @ednico has access to it?

@catominor @nhan@mastodon.social @ednico I'm using Phanpy, much prefer how conversation is presented in the Reddit-like way. Either of those clients greatly improve both UI and UX.However, there are inherent limitations built into the design of Mastodon that these apps can't work around. For example, a conversation viewed from your server may not be fully loaded. You may be missing out on lots of 2nd and 3rd level replies without knowing it.

@catominor @ednico Don't know if you have run into this issue (and understandably if you haven't because you may not aware of it).E.g. from your server (such as pkm.social), you view a thread on mastodon.social and see only 25 replies, but if you view it on mastodon.social there are 50 replies! Many 2nd and 3rd-level replies only load in your server if you search for them using the link, and thus trigger your server to load that reply so you can comment/boost/interact with it from your server.

@catominor @ednico The worst part is that there's no missing-reply indication to tell you to switch to the original server to follow the full conversation.I think the design is to make the server small enough so that it can be easily host by people thus ensuring the decentralization aspect and only load replies as needed (If you don't need to interact your server doesn't need to load it--makes sense!). But having to switch back and forth to read a conversation will never cut it for the masses.

@catominor @ednico Just ran into this issue again today. The picture would make it much easier to understand. You want to be on social media because interesting things/ideas/people are there, but this way you're unintentionally "tricked" (don't know how to say it better) into thinking that things are very dull while it's not. Here's the link to the post in the images if you want to test it out https://brokentoys.social/@ZenOfDesign/110245981752858440.

@catominor @ednico Afaik. Phanpy provides an easy way to switch between your server and the original post's server but Elk Zone doesn't. Another reason why I use Phanpy.

@post @catominor @ednico Mastodon is running into the decentralization argument of the ~2016 crypto world? https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/110258414050207425 and https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110233282251253677. If the past rhymes with the future: more toxic arguments and eventual fracture of Mastodon. I have many opinions on this, yet I acknowledge that I have 0 expertise in this field, so I'll just watch but I'll prep to pack up camp when the time comes. It's 2023 and we really haven't figured out how to make a good and healthy social media.

@post If #Logseq allows you to opt-out of the AI integration with a toggle, would that meet your privacy requirements?

@post Understood. I also know that Germany is considering to follow Italy for the ban. However, it's fine for me for a company to provide the AI integration as long as my data is safe if I keep the feature off. The AI integration is appealing to a portion of users, and the users should educate themselves on privacy issues of OpenAI. #Logseq should not be the gatekeeper here. I think it's similar to the community plugins, and users are responsible to assess their own risk tolerance.

@post In this sense #SiYuan would also not cut it for you. They have had ChatGPT integration for a while (It's not on by default. You have to go through a few steps to set it up (obviously it needs an API key).
