@duponin What are your requirements?If you can afford It, a zraid2 is a good balance between storage, price and not having a bad time you you have to replace a faulty disk.If not, 2x8 mirror is a bit safer just because the more disks in the pool, the more chances of get a faulty one.You mentioned that you have periodic copies on other pool, right? Then It might worth to have more storage capacity, all depends on my initial question. What are your requirements? 😊

@duponin For db, zfs has specific requirements and setups, you should check them before.Between mirror or raidz1 I could recomend the cheapest price/gigabit , probably 4x4 zraid1 for 12 raw TB? + zstd compresión and iI would add fast SSD arc cache. It doesn't need to be specially Big or expensive to improve performance.Of course, as we sapaniards usually say, the devil is in the details. 😁

@duponin Regaring syncoid, I believe that I tested it and it was fine but it was long time ago.Personally I don't run any send/recv in my domestic systems, mostly because I haven´t the hardware. At work I use my own scripts for rsync and zfs snapshot , send/recv using rundeck, and several instances of truenas.

@duponin Yep, I was talking about really huge dbs, when the backups might take to much time to be practical, even in a master/slave environment.Nixos is, definitively in my new year queue of nice to do in 2023 :D

@duponin I'll do.If you end going with the replica, you should keep in mind that replica aren't really backups.It will save you if the master server dies, but it will not protect you from user errors like deleting or updating the wrong data. Also recovery point in time will need extra work.Have a great day!

@river @marcelcosta @fanta En mi caso tengo una Nvidia vieja y un pool zfs y a veces se ha liado entre el kernel, dkms y los módulos binarios pero en general va bien, es lo que tengo en mi equipo personal.En el del trabajo tengo fedora silverblue más que nada porque ese me garantiza que si no me gusta una actualización, sea del sistema o de cualquier otro componente puedo dar marcha atrás. De esa manera no tengo que preocuparme si actualizo el sistema antes de una reunión o perder media mañana de trabajo si un update me rompe algo importante. Esto también lo garantiza uno de los sabores de opensuse, no recuerdo exactamente cuál y no sé si habrá alguna distro basada en deb que use btrf y ostree.Otra muy interesante, pero que no he probado es nixos, pero esa tiene una curva de aprendizaje más pronunciada.

@lextenebris @ClawedQuinna Of course, i simply didn't wanted to start a discussion for something that it is a taste, i don't care the things you care, so even if you have an analysis about why you like xyz the specific points are not valid to me beyond the facts like linear vs bell curves.My personal prefrences are porcentually d100/d20 under value.First of all, the more dices throwed the more spreaded in the table and if i want to avoid the dispersion then i must use extra elements which occupy space. I find this uncomfortable.Secondly, mechanically i find bell curves more boring than linear.Thirdly, but maybe the most important, as master i like to clearly understand which difficulties i'm asking for, to get 47 or less in a d100 doesn't need any calculation.

@tecnoysoft No hace falta ser un hater para saber lo que sabían las principales distros cuando saltaron a systemd:- Que ni es kiss ni especialmente unix-like.- Que duplica cosas a poco que necesites un mínimo de funcionalidad extra.-Que es incompatible con nuestros primos de la familia bsd, por lo que hace más difícil portar cosas que tengan que ver con el arranque .
