@Rape @Ricotta @kfist Yeah, there's enough servers now taht I can stop without it really impacting fedi as a whole. We've come really far. Back when I started there were like five English speaking instances with more than one user.

@Kagekokoro Eh, cost is just a part of it. I don't want to maintain it anymore. It just takes too much time out of my day, and moving it away from the old server would be such a pain (and probably wouldn't even work as the DB is fugged). I just can't be fucking arsed to do it.

@hfaust Here's the thing. I feel comfortable shutting down the instance because the good things don't end with it. We have achieved absolute victory. There's dozens of other instances that offer the same freedom now, compared to when we started alone.

@jyushimatsu That won't work, as it's not even my domain. Obviously if one of you guys wants to create a new GNU/Smug that would work too. everyone was willing to register again when I moved from GNU Social to Pleroma, so they might be willing to move to your new instance too.

Man do I feel like a President pulling out a war. I set out to post lolis and say nigger. @Ricotta @Kagekokoro No, that's not how it works. The thing also collects far too much private information to just give it to anyone. I trust three people on fedi enough to handle the GNU/Smug database. One is no admin, one just own smuglo.li and one runs SPC.
