For #MeerMittwoch here's one of the many bits of attractive, rocky shoreline around Cap Salou in Catalonia, Spain, taken in 2012. We're looking down from a cruise ship to one of its tender boats (often referred to as water shuttles these days). My Google Pixel shows me things it thinks I might be interested in, and it's sometimes right, but sometimes it gets obsessed with something that I maybe checked out once, fleetingly. Tesla stock prices, for instance. I don't own shares in anything. I don't really care. I was briefly interested in how much it had dropped since a lot of people had talked about it. Now, I can't escape seeing the price on my phone. I'd be more annoyed but it's always red with a downward arrow next to it.

Ålesund today. A city we've visited before so we walked to a viewpoint, hit a museum of local architecture, visited a historical building, shopped, then spent two hours in a craft ale brewery right next to the ship. Android 16 update time. According to the notes my Pixel is getting better by adding AI mode through Gemini on the home screen and some animations, and only 1.29 GB in size for these amazing improvements I'll neither use nor notice.

It downloaded the update and it's now been "optimising" my device for about the last fifteen minutes with no movement on the progress bar. It paused once for no reason whatsoever until I clicked the "Resume, because why the fuck did you stop installing, you piece of crap?" button. It shouldn't be this painful to update software.

The phone update took about 70 minutes in total. There is no noticeable change in appearance or major functionality but I have just played around with the VIP contacts thingy for a couple of minutes before consigning that to the bin.
