The novelization of Blazing Saddles is actually pretty good so far.

I finished the novelization of Blazing Saddles. The movie is better of course, but they captured way more of the fun of the movie than you might expect. I like how they occasionally take liberties with typography, not unlike how the movie messes with the conventions of film.

Try to find a job you love as much as Blade loves killing vampires.

One of the neat things about the IBM Selectric typewriter is that it has interchangeable "typeballs" for different fonts/languages. And now someone figured out how to 3D print custom ones, so now you can type on a Selectric in Comic Sans. https://www.printables.com/model/441233-comic-sans-typeball-for-the-ibm-selectric-typewrit

If Elon Musk were really a real-life Tony Stark he’d have grown up by now instead of being a 54-year-old adolescent.

I got a copy of The Typewriter Revolution, and the red and black bookmark ribbon on it is delightful. #typewriter

Part of the appeal of typewriters today is that they let you type while unplugging. No one's going to force your 50+ year old typewriter to have genAI nonsense or add a monthly subscription fee.

• The average smartphone has a lifespan of 2-4 years.• Fairfone's extended support gives their phone a lifespan of 7+ years.• I have a Remington typewriter in good working order that's old enough to collect Social Security.

Probably the most fun part of the Xero novels has been writing fictional YouTube videos, like this one about the worst (fictional of course) Xero merchandise. There's been some remarkably weird/bad superhero merch over the years.

Probably the most fun fictional YouTube videos to write are Pitch Meetings and Honest Trailers!

I really like how the M-Force: Messiah Truthful Trailer is turning out, though a lot of it won't make any sense without having read the novel first.

Since I'm planning to include Stardust the Super Wizard in the final Xeroverse book, I got the collection of the complete works of Fletcher Hanks, appropriately titled Turn Loose Our Death Rays and Kill Them All. There's nothing quite like it, though Dick Tracy is probably the closest, what with how it involved a lot of formulaic stories with a square-jawed hero dealing with weirdly deformed criminals.

I started reading Rachel Wagner's Cowboy Apocalypse, which is nothing to do with DeadLands, and is in fact a nonfiction book that explores the intersection of apocalypticism and America's cowboy mythos. It's fascinating and disturbing.

I finished Cowboy Apocalypse, which had some interesting points though I think it gets a little too in the weeds discussing specific pieces of media. OTOH it got me to listen to the God Awful Movies review of "Amerigeddon," which was hilarious, just an Alex Jones fantasy come to life.

Every time the author recounted a prepper going on about how they're all ready for the fall of civilization, I wanted to ask:• What'll you do if that *doesn't* happen?• Do you not care about fellow Americans enough to help prevent that?

It occurs to me that "the problems are bad but their causes are very good" sums up kind of a lot of US policy in general.

Free-writing about this stuff and I just wrote, "there are so many naked emperors running around," and I think it's clear what I mean (if not I invite you to look at e.g. Mark Cuban's latest crashout on Bluesky), but it's still quite an image.

I wonder what other billionaires in the MCU think of Tony Stark. He (1) shut down Stark Industries' arms manufacturing and (2) became a superhero. People probably argue over which benefited the world more, but he kind of makes every other rich guy look bad by comparison.

Gonna made a character named Amber Jade Diamond just to annoy people, and she has sisters named Ruby, Pearl, and wait did this just become Steven Universe? You have to tell us if it's Steven Universe.
