@gpollara @darnell @rm4 Funny enough, #Fediverse now have two platforms specifically for blogs, WriteFreely and Wordpress (with plugins).Though I think if Fediverse platforms can be made like blog platforms, it would make more sense to me.

Do anyone tell me why #Linux and Linux hardwares is so popular in #Fediverse ? For example, I've always see people talking about like #Framework, #System76 and other Linux-friendly laptops. #SteamDeck is also the most discussed handheld, even more than #NintendoSwitch , #ROGAlly or whatever,...

@boilingsteam That's why proprietary systems and softwares create vendor lock-in so bad that even Google cannot go out of it, people are indoctrinated of proprietary systems and softwares and when the ones behind them screw up, the users are all screwed too...

@Linux It's interesting that some software (including proprietary like this one) has started to go to Wayland. Though many softwares (both libre/open source and proprietary) still don't give a damn about Wayland or Flatpak or Pipewire,...

@ret Ah, Micro$hit, again; their higher-ups are too high on #AIs it seems. That's why we mustn't let Micro$hit do stupid things like from mandating OEMs to install #Windows, enforcing their proprietary Secure Boot and UEFI standards, and now so high on AIs they can and will change one of the more important part of the computer on their will.#antitrust #enshittification #microsoft #uselesskey #switchtolinuxnow #whatabouteu #aibubble #fuckmicrosoft #monopoly

@davidrevoy I have to endure #Windows as my old #Linux machine got irrepairably broken and I don't have time to reinstall everything on #Linux. Anyway maybe I'll reinstall it next week so I can leave it for good

@davidrevoy Great post, but I have the issue that you suggested mastodon.art; the problem of that instance is that they defederate with too many instances for small reasons, and when the instances' admins and mods questions to reason they failed to provide evidences, and tend to assume bad faiths, even my second account's instance (tech.lgbt) got in the crossfire tho. Their moderation stances would not help any artist there, I am still baffled many people still recommend that instance

@davidrevoy @the1goit I think they use machine learning for their Glaze though, I'm a computer science student and know that even though we (humans) know many subtle errors that AI generated images have, most machine learning models aren't currently capable at processing the whole image, and the images need to go through multiple layers to simplify it (something like convolutional neural networks), and these layers may remove many features that can be used to detect these images

@davidrevoy @MaxArt2501 Ah, that's why I can actually disable #Javascript and still have the website nearly fully functional. Other websites when Javascript turned off will either blank or return a 'Need Javascript on' notice (as they are single page apps), turned into a horrible mess, or with missing buttons and content and features and unusable sidebar (like #GNOME's websites).Though I would likely to use a static site generators if I were you as I'm lazy enough to edit everything.

@davidrevoy Note that if you are concerning about security, you may want to enable Google Safe Browsing as well (I know this is from Google, but implementation from Mozilla is making sense and even Librewolf devs are considering enabling it if it wasn't for user self-compiling issues). I'm a CS student myself but I don't think I'm that savvy for checking every site I go though.

@davidrevoy @simonzerafa @protonprivacy @mozillaofficial I mean something as simple like text-to-speech or OCR or machine translation models (like Google Translate/DeepL) can be considered "AI" technically. I'm a student and many courses involving creating our own models from scratch and many of my projects involving use models like tesseract-ocr, turtle-tts, YOLO, LLaMA,... for some tasks and this is painful for me as many outputs don't even make sense and I had to tweak a lot.

@davidrevoy @praveen @darkbeth I mean this is one of the benefits of open source and free/libre software, is that it help users to have alternative in case the original went bad and have a voice to push back harmful changes.

@davidrevoy @ArneBab @prinlu @creativecommons Regarding this and your previous point I think that in many cases, we (and also the models as well) may inadvertently create things with features similar to existing copyrighted works, and with enough resources someone can find some character to bootstrap a lawsuit and win, regardless that the other party don't even have any knowledge about that work/characters.

@davidrevoy @prinlu @ArneBab @creativecommons But I heard that in the Midjourney case, they actually knowingly used copyrighted materials as advertisement and such, and don't provide much measures against generating copyrighted characters and works so it's like that they cannot use an excuse of not knowing about that and intentionally violated copyrights

@davidrevoy @ArneBab @prinlu @creativecommons In the blog post the other commenter provided above, the author knows that they generated Terminator (a copyrighted character) so it's considered some kind of unauthorized reproduction under copyright laws and since they know that it's extremely difficult if impossible to defend. And note that in machine learning and AI, if a model reproduces parts of its training data, it's considered overfitting and pretty much researchers are aiming to avoid that
