@xj9 CouchDB is awfully sketchy with their continued use of MD5.

@purism If you're trying to avoid fragmentation, then why does the mobile build of PureOS have weird differences from desktop like breaking the root account?

@wolf480pl Caching? They could have different cache timeouts?

@wolf480pl Thinking about it a bit, at least for the case where the same nameserver is authoritative for both the alias and the target, I don't see any reason not to replace the use of CNAMEs with an explicit alias feature. By making the administrator request an "alias", then you can still have CNAMEs if there does end up being a case where there's a benefit.

@wolf480pl There's definitely some architecture limits for disks at 2TB. Are these devices booting via BIOS rather than UEFI?

@wolf480pl If some old BIOS machines had a limit at 2TB, it seems reasonable that old 32-bit ARM devices could too. Track down a more recent machine to test in? Put stickers on the drives and write "2TB" on them in crayon?

@wolf480pl Ahh, if you have 3 of them and only one of them's wrong then you should sell it on ebay as a rare collectable misprint.

@strypey The problem is that it's not just hosting. The major tech platforms generally offer a whole bunch of apparently minor stuff to draw in users and then keep them there with the network effect (by holding their friends hostage).

@maxeddy You can repair your device, with their permission, with their parts, and on their schedule. This is "self repair", with none of the digital autonomy that that concept normally implies.

@rysiek The risks of forcing people to verify their ID for any service are much worse than the risk of kids being convinced they want Spiderman branded Pop Tarts.

@atoponce All because Mozilla made an explicit decision to stop supporting embedded Gecko and thereby completely give up the benefits of a downstream ecosystem - which includes any chance at having market share in the long term - a decade ago.Someone should certainly build an alternative to the Chromium engine, but nobody's managed to actually do it.

@natecull Perfect wealth equality means that your economic system can't incentivize anything via financial reward, not even providing essential products and services. So short of a radically new economic system, you want some wealth inequality. And there are going to be outliers, more extreme with more population The median household net worth in the US is around $100k. About 9% are millionaires. How many households minimum before there should be one with a net worth over a billion dollars?

@FailForward @piggo I've been using the Ruuvitag for this. I don't know if I'd call 30 euros cheap, but it works immediately out of the box and leaves open plenty of opportunity for tinkering later.
