@funkula @outie @doot My neighborhood has an owl that dive bombs early morning dog walkers, as testified by several gouged and bloody scalps. We call it the Fluffy Murder Ball and it probably weighs all of 5 pounds. None us would survive a scaled up 50x version.

@aral It’s really disappointing to get this periodic reminder that, no matter how good I ever get at following the tenets of love & understanding in my religion, atheists will just sneer and dismiss me with “magic sky fairy”.

@aral I never said religion is required to be a good person. I’m just annoyed that I can live up to your stated ideas of a good person and still be an object of your contempt.

@aral I don’t agree that my religion is a collection of horrible bits. And it’s tiresome to be told that again and again, as I often am working in tech, especially by people I want to respect.Sometimes it feels like that’s just my lot, unless I want to hide away that part of me or play the role of “one of the good ones”.

@futurebird Maybe give them a homework assignment: Pay close attention to how many times in a day you hear somebody misspeak and correct themself, no matter how small it is. We all do this a lot, but it happens so fast and so often that we rarely notice. When it happens in a computer program, we call that a bug. But the computer won't have the zillion shared context clues that human language enjoys. It can't work out what you mean by itself. And it has very limited ways to ask for help.
