@eighthave kind reminder - for us, there is no "but". In order to have these funny idle talks about whether some war is bullshit or choice between militants and genocidal morons it is necessary to stay alive. For Ukraine and for other countries near russian border the question of NATO is the matter of existence, other things, if any, go later.

@Lazycog @eighthaveIndeed. Moreover, AFAIR the neutrality of #Finland after #WWII was, basically, forced by conditions of negotiations rather than voluntarily chosen. And now Finland decided to join #NATO (as well as Sweden), probably because they remember their history quite good.The purpose of soviet invasion to Hungary and Czechoslovakia was completely different.For Ukraine, neutrality has *already* failed.

@eighthave @Lazycog "But it has worked" when you don't lock your door, but there is no thief, technically it also "works".Before ca. 1990, there was actually no choice for Austria, then before ca.2000 there was no need (the Cold war was like "won"), later there was no sense (Austria found itself mostly between democratic EU/NATO states which would obviously not plan invasion). Technically, the discussion now is purely theoretical, even if hypothetically russia occupies Poland and Czechia, the formal Austria status would not be too much important anymore (I mean, that the course of military actions on such scale would be barely dependent on formal questions).But the things are notably dependent on the geographic location.

@eighthave @Lazycog I think that not Austrians will decide when NATO will consider acception of new members or other forms of collaboration. Neutrality is not about absence of 'fast ticket' somewhere, it is about strategic plans for decades ahead - in this question, what is the point to declare " we will be neutral forever"? Unless you are surrounded by NATO countries, surely.Right now Ukraine implements NATO military standards just to be able to use Western military assistance - so, the coherence is *already* vital, isn't it?

When we are talking about communication software, it should be easily accessible, without requirements of solemn wows, degree in computer sciences or even long troubleshooting, otherwise the audience will be marginal, if any.1. One need to get a client. On mobile it would be most probably #Conversations or some its forks of different degree of weirdness. Conversations requires either to pay them immediately or use #Fdroid. It is not bad to pay or donate them (though I am not happy about giving google my card) but it raises the entrance limit immediately. On desktop, one would have to mess up with a bunch of clients, from which only #Gajim and #Dino seem to be more or less modern (and quite probably one will need to install cutting-edge version from flatpak or whatever).2. Well, then server. Well, there are reasonable, advice or research is necessary.3. Troubleshooting and fine mistakes. E.g. #Conversations fails to ask microphone permission when somebody calls in, it just throws error. Yes, it is minor issue, but how many people will say "it doesn't work, it is buggy, why should I?" (recall, on that point the potential new user has already made a lot of research and possibly even paid some money). Again, #Conversations follow some weird barely understandable for me ritual on adding new contacts, I couldn't just add a contact and write to it.Just to conclude, #xmpp is not a smooth experience for any non-geek.

@debacle @frankie the alternative is at least to understand the problems and try to mitigate them. We need to have a smooth entrance for regular people, at least. Thus, at least, free set of basic software with simple instructions, kept up-to-date, all points matter.

@debacle @frankie Actually, despite I really like #xmpp, I am afraid #jami would be more survivable in perspective, just because of the workflow: they have a solid organization which develops a reference client with acceptably low entrance barrier.But it is also problematic on #RaspberryPi, though.

Читаю в новинах про вартість проїзду у Києві і Львові.Хочете зараз зроблю боляче?У Празі річний проїзний коштує 3650 крон на рік. Тобто 10 крон в день. 16-17 гривень за поточним курсом.Це повний безліміт на всі види громадського транспорту, включаючи приміські електрички в межах міста. Виключення становить лише пара туристичних маршрутів і поїзди дальнього сполучення.Жодної калькуляції кількості поїздок і довбаних валідаторів, ви просто носите картку в кишені і пред'являєте контролеру в разі його появи. Головні завдання - не забувати картку вдома (ніби навіть є якась прога в мобільник для диджиталізаторів) і (!!!) не забувати її поповнювати (!!!).У Кракові схема була та ж (без електричок, здається), тільки річних проїзних не було. Але навіть з місячними проїзними проїзд на місяць виходив дешевше, ніж в Києві.Зате українські чиновники дуже люблять розказувати дитячі казки про найдешевший в Європі транспорт.@ua

@mima "so that web servers return gopher menus instead of HTML" it sounds a bit confusing. You can run Gopher server on any port you like, but it will still be Gopher protocol if the Gopher menu is served - or a weird mix of both.
