If you remember, Everyone saw Big Bird, but Mr. Snuffleupagus was the Mastodon of Sesame Street that the adults didn’t believe was real...

Most of my ideas take a loooooong time to gel into something actionable. I’ve been wanting to document projects on video as I start learning how to work with electronics. I started getting excited about this idea around December of 2017. The structure and form of this have evaded me, but I think I’m getting a sense of what I want to do with it.

This is pretty great because I don’t have the experience or background to just get on camera and start doing/sharing stuff of value. I think the key for being a beginner is to work through things at my own pace, and share the ups/downs afterwards.

I’m inspired by @scanlime who demonstrates patience, curiosity, creativity and a remarkable knowledge base through video broadcasts and edited videos. I’m inspired by @neauoire who maintains a large scale and living document of projects and learning via a very stylish website/wiki.Just a couple of the many sources of inspiration out there doing their thing and sharing it.

I joined Tumblr early on, and got the username "nate" in 2008. Since then I've been propositioned and even threatened by folks who wanted my username handed to them.So maybe I'm one of the few who aren't too sad about Tumblr losing some popularity. Then again, I was never more than an infrequent visitor/poster.

But the lifecycle pattern of sites that provide free content posting services to the general public keeps repeating itself:1) service opens, is exciting/different in some way, reaches new audiences2) popularity grows, audience widens3) business scrambles to make advertising keep up with growing costs4) sacrifices made to platform that hurt users/devs and help corporate advertisers5) site closesMany see services like facebook/twitter as permanent, but I just see them as another friendster/myspace.

@mattskala that's interesting, I hadn't followed what happened with Livejournal. I suppose too many free options makes paid accounts non-viable.

@mattskala ah! Interesting background. Thanks, I had no idea.
