@williampietri one of the best things those of us who are white can do is set days for all our spaces where *we* don't participate.Our *presence and existence* can itself be harmful for people who have historically been grievously harmed by our ancestors, for people from whom we currently sit on stolen labor and space.Give that space back for at least one day per instance

@williampietri instead of demanding marginalized people segregate themselves, we need to make our spaces safer by taking marked times for ourselves to leave and hand them over.Like I'd just like to see *all* instances that claim to be welcoming commit to one day a week (doesn't have to be the same one) that's #NoWhiteNoiseDay and #NoMenAllowedDay

Also, I feel like there's value in "simplified" and "granular" arguments alike.Like simplified, for everyone, is "this is who we are, it's not something we can "just not be" for your comfort or needs" - something literally *anyone* but the most raging of bigots should be able to understand, a standard tolerance argument.More granular would be "nature or nurture or how much of which" type arguments, culture based arguments, etc. They're internally important, but they're *also* not a place for normies and outsiders to be fumbling about, hurting people with things they don't understand.Basically the difference between 1st and 2nd grade science 101 and doctorate level theoretical chemistry or something

@lauren I agree. Also been noticing an uptick in recommends/promotion for fascist/extremist content (from Christofascist preachers/apologists etc, all the way to the usual right wing asshats) in clean searches - including for stuff like mental health questions or such

@stux @mammoth I use that one since it's one of the few that works on older-generation iphones. Ice Cubes and Tusky don't work on a 7+ for example. So far only Metatext and Mammoth seem to have older iphone support

@fcktheworld587 @matoakit seriously though that's bugged me for a long while - matching based on height/muscle mass/biomarkers (specifically circulating androgens + red blood cells + lung capacity) would make far more sense for sports influenced by it than gender, alone.matching based on gender is like matching on nationality - a really broad-brush method that is more about stereotypes and averages than the actual competitors

I'm just fine with your lists (and love them) because I *can* accommodate to my own needs/safety level.It actually seems odd that people would come at you for that reason because if they're actually interested in the instances that "aren't hate/CSA groups, but are problematic in other more mundane ways" etc - there's nothing stopping them from customizing. I do it myself with unblocking the Ukraine war bot - something a lot of people have very valid reasons to entirely domain block *because* a lot of libposting and pro-western bullshit is on there and it doesn't use CWs on anything, but occasionally it does break some valid news that I want to pass on with the proper CWs/disclaimers/precautions, etc.So I think the people coming at you AREN'T capable of "curating their own experience" as much as they claim to be because... it's much easier to curate with the hate groups and worthless troll crap and pedoshit cut out already.

@Are0h To me, it just seems ridiculous that these people complain about something that tells them what the problems are and gives them the choice as to how to deal with them.Like, it's not like The Bad Space is accusing everyone who feels better in a big instance or okay with an instance that has more lax moderation/way too many libs and normies/doesn't CW politics/has had a spam problem/etc etc of being, themselves, a bad person. It's literally just a content warning, and a very useful one.(Although the hate instances/p*do instances? If someone's on/federated with one of those, they *are* a bad person. And I half wonder if so many of the people complaining have one or more of those they want to engage in...ugh)

@Are0h the talk over it kind of reminds me of people who have issues with Does The Dog Die because they see it as somehow judging *every single warning on there and every person who doesn't avoid something due to every warning*When no, 90 percent of the warnings are judgment-free. There's literally no judgment for you, personally, if, say, you can tolerate spiders or flashing lights, hell, if you ENJOY them. "CW: spiders and flashing lights" is just to protect people with arachnophobia and/or photosensitive epilepsy, and help them make better, safer personal decisions.(Although I do think some of the "CW as judgment" hangover does come from conflation issues, which I actually think the different tiers of blocklists and the transparency you have with TBS helps deal with a lot, because it makes it clear that there's a huge difference between say m.s and a hate group/abuse material exchange and they're not the same thing/deserving of an equal level of "nuke it from orbit")

Also, it's both possible for him to be better than trump (honestly, I could list a hundred awful or unfun things that are 100 percent better than trump) and still not someone we should celebrate. I don't think any US president is worthy of celebration *just* for being such (specific acts are fine, I'm not going to hate on FDR for the New Deal or Jimmy Carter for climbing into a nuclear reactor to stop a nuclear disaster or Obama for keeping a relatively stable internal experience in the imperial core, etc...)
