@Gargron @matrix I dream of a future where protocols like activitypub and matrix are combined into a single, comprehensive communications suite. Oh, you want to post something on the fediverse? Just use the social app features of "Communicator X" (provided by pleroma or Mastodon underneath). Oh, you want to chat on a specific topic/room/team? Just use the chat features of (the same) "Communicator X" (provided by matrix client like riot etc.). I normally subscribe to the *nix approach of "do one thing, and do it well"...but office suites (e.g. LibreOffice, MS office, etc.) have certainly made bundling of apps work pretty well. ;-)

@sean Chin up on your search for your new gig. It's not easy. I'm looking for a new job myself. And it's funny (not really), when I hear about how supposedly good the economy is, and how anyone who wants a job supposedly has one (or can easily get one), and how applicants have leverage over potential employers, etc... But I'm just not seeing it. I remember my being able to get jobs much easier/quicker just a handful of years ago...but now things are so difficult. In addition, having/getting a job is not the same as having/getting a good job where one obtains some sort of fulfillment. So I feel for you, and really wish you some great luck! This very moment, I'm wirelessly sending you some positive vibes!!! 🧙♂️🌟🤞

@lain Thank you and the team so much for the work on pleroma that you do! I'm looking forward to upgrading my instance soon. [https://pleroma.social/blog/2020/03/08/releasing-pleroma-2-0-0/]

@J Hi there, I'd be happy to help! To clarify, I'm using pleroma as the only website/app for my uribe.cafe domain...so not sure how nice pleroma plays with other sites/apps under the same domain name...but I'm guessing it will be fine... Is your question about adding pleroma under your existing domain name that might already have some other websites/apps? Or, is your question more fundamental, such as getting started with installing pleroma on a domain name? Because if it is the former, while i haven't tried it, since i'm using nginx as the proxy, i'm pretty sure pleroam can be added to a running nginx. If your question is the latter, then the official pleroma site should have installation guides: https://pleroma.social/ By the way, i say "guides" (plural) because nowadays it seems like you can install only the back-end or only the front-end...while back when i first set up my pleroma instance, both came in the same setup. (Clearly, i have to update/upgrade my setup.) Does this help? If not, don't hesitate to let me know!

@J I breezed through that guide, but didn't look at the sample nginx file that is provide. In essence wherever you have your domain name registered, you have to create what's called an "A" record within the DNS settings, and add the value for the IP address to whatever your server's IP address is. Then you have to make a few updates within the nginx file. I don't have a moment now. But I will have a moment tomorrow to take a look and provide some more guidance on what edits you should do within the nginx file.

@melmc I've seen this happen on occasion where the front-end doesn't update to reflect newly-added accounts, but the back-end does have that info. I can't seem to reproduce the conditions that create that scenario (at least not consistently), otherwise i would have reported it as a bug to the pleroma folks. What i do to "fix it" is kill my browser session, or log in from a different web browser - just to confirm that the newly-followed account has been added. Then, i stop worrying about it, and eventually the cache expires by itself and things begin to reflect reality (usually a few hours or so). Mind you, this is not ideal, but since i'm running an older version of pleroma, and have been on the fedivrse less and less lately, this bug hasn't been too painful for me. Considering that your version of pleroma is likelier newer than mine, either try the method that i use (which is admittedly very cheesy), or you might want to report this to the pleroma folks; though be prepared to inform them of the conditions that seem to trigger that issue. Sorry, I know this doesn't help you much.

Hi @melmc happy new year! I hope you had a nice, restful holiday season! Now, as to your memory troubles... I've never reached for swap file whenever I've had memory issues. Then again I'll assume your researching has lead you to this decision point (so someone must have advised you that swap considerations might help). My experience has shown me that an "easy" thing to do is throw more memory at a problem. That is usually easier than rolling up your sleeves to do plumbing work with swap files. But, before you go up to the next level up droplet on D.O., have you tried rebooting the droplet? (Before doing so you want to ensure that you know the proper pleroma commands for starting/re-starting your instance of course.) Also, as lightweight and great as pleroma might be, could this also be a manifestation of a bug? Luckily you have that screenshot with those errors...Have you tried reaching out to the developers of pleroma? Not only would that help them and others like you and me who use their software globallly), but maybe it is an easy fix for them, and you avoid spending unnecessary money on a droplet. Side note: i know i run an older version of pleroma than you, but i've run it on the cheapest $5/month droplet since pleroma roughly first came out...and i've not had memory issues...though it is certainly also possible that your instance is far more popular than the trafic that i receive. Anyway, if i were you, might want to consider reaching out to the pleroma devs (i honestly don;t know how approachable or not they are)...before considering plunking down more dough on an upgraded droplet. Failing all this of course, then move up the $10 droplet. Good luck!

@melmc Good to hear about the automatic restarting for pleroma! As far as restricting disk usage, there a few ways to skin this cat. From a bare server perspective, you would need to research terms like "disk quota" or "storage quota". It's possible but more than I can put into a post here. Though that route might create more errors if pleroma tries to push against that sort of limitation. Now for storage limits on the pleroma (application) side of things, that **may** be possible...but that's beyond my skills. Sorry. There is another (not great but not awful) option: digitalocean allows buying extra storage for a droplet without upgrading the whole droplet. I can't recall how expensive but I **think** it is cheaper than fully upgrading the droplet. I hope that helps!

@melmc Hmmm...$5/month seems like that's the next level up droplet...not a bad thing, I guess I figured getting only more storage might be cheaper (cheaper than upgrading the droplet). Nevertheless that extra RAM/memory might help the original issue you noted. Now as far minimal storage, I can't say. Honestly I'm still on the regular 25GB and I'm fine. So my opinion is 50GB is way more than sufficient...but maybe your instance is loading up on images which is stuffing your disk? (I'm assuming your instance only manage you as the only user, like mine...if you have more users, that's a clue to your expanded storage needs) 😊

@melmc I guess that might do it. 😊 Here's hoping the 50GB can do the trick. Also here's an article on helping find what is using up your storage: https://www.nuxified.org/article/hunting-down-disk-space-hogs-linux-command-line/ Good luck!
