in the tileset for super mario world, if you're looking at it in a vram viewer or something, you'll see the word "ILLUSIYELLOW" written out. it looks pretty normal, but actually, the letters there are kerned sliiightly closer than they are in the normal font, crossing tile boundaries. "illusi" has a "space" at the start of it while still taking up 6 tiles, and "yellow" only takes up 5this is done because "forest of illusion" and "switch palace yellow" are each too long to fit as a level name, so they crunch down parts of it into fewer tiles so they can fithere's a level in a romhack that's called ILLUSIYELLOW, where everything yellow is fake. it can't hurt you and you'll fall right through ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxlyQfPk9bo?t=41s

one time i saw someone on here complain about something that they said some piece of software should do, and i told them "we've known since the 70s that that's literally impossible. there's no protocol that allows you to do it". they said to me "i don't care about math shit, it's the nerds' job to figure it out"and that has coloured every conversation i've had about computers since.
