@interfluidity My theory has always been It’s what sums up the difference between the left and the right. The left tends to think of the many and does so with compassion. The right tends to think of the self and barely extends compassion even to their own. So the left is just less likely to use derision than the right so you hear the term used more.

Sigh...so just found out the news that #protonmail is run by a #trump fanboy. Fantastic...Curious if my #infosec friends are looking at other options for secure email service. I've heard maybe Tuta Mail is a viable alternative but I've zero experience with them.

@futurebird That’s amazing. What age group is the team you coach? I’ve wanted to get my kiddo involved in robotics but wasn’t sure if 11 was too young to start.

Target (the US company) is continuing to struggle and I think it’s fabulous that this can be directly attributed to their #DEI stance. That plus the #tariffs that are tanking most companies right now has them looking at a bleak sales outlook this quarter. The reason this has me so happy is twofold. First, this shows that enough people stopped buying from Target that it affected their earnings. Second, it shows that no one new moved in to bolster their business. So the #maga bigots who I’m guessing already shopped there, they’re nowhere near the numbers they might need to stay afloat. Translation: there’s way more of us then there are of them and us refusing to shop at Target is leaving a lasting impression. I hope the staff caught in the middle of this are able to get new jobs at companies with strong DEI policies and Target continues to struggle. Maybe they can ask Costco why they’re doing so well right now…

@Nonilex So let's see if I have this right. A guy, who both lived and did business in NYC for 60+ years, who has a Jewish son-in-law, who has Jewish real estate partners, did not know that "Shylock" is antisemitic. Right. What I love the most about this is that there is literally no way that Trump can come away from this and look good. If he didn't know that the word was offensive then he's an ignorant fool. If he did know what it means then he's a bigot for using it. Though because it is Trump, he's likely found a way to a superposition of both being true at the same time as he is frequently both ignorant *and* bigoted at the same time.

We’ve been updating the English language for generations, it grows and evolves with the times. We’re still using “landlord,” a term from feudal manorialism, to describe the ownership model for rental properties. This is not a gripe about inaccuracies in our language, this is a gripe about how it is still very accurate and that should upset more people.

I think our ragdoll cat might love Depeche Mode. Now granted, everyone I think can agree that Dave Gahan’s voice is dreamy, so this is not terribly surprising. But still I did not expect Momo, who rarely pays me the slightest attention, to get all lovey on me just because I put on “Violator” while I was taking my shower. Cats never fail to surprise me. Funny how when I met my wife I was definitely not a cat person and here we are, coming up on 20 years together, with three of the little monsters running around the house and me loving them all.

Do I know any folks here who are into #HEMA? I’m trying to figure out if it might be a good fit for the zergling and getting conflicting information from different sources online as to how appropriate it might be for a tween and trying to suss out how much of that is club-specific and how much is just HEMA in general.
