@kev @mike Louis Rossmann reminds us that the scope of the program is important. Is it just batteries and screens? How granular will components be available (e.g., whole top lid vs. being able to replace just the screen). The onus is on Apple to prove that they care about right to repair.

@kev I run Linux on my laptop.I also use Debian on my ChromeOs device (because Emacs). And after trying to write Clojure code on a Windows machine at work, I gave up and am now running Ubuntu under WSL-2.I think I am just as much of a Linux user on ChromeOS and Windows.Disagree?

@mike @JoeRess I used WSL2 with Emacs for some Clojure development. Much easier than doing the same under Windows: all my command line tools were available, Emacs ran fine, Clojure also ran fine. The only gotcha was that the Windows AV software made accessing Linux files from Windows slow, so I turned it off.Bottom line: I used WSL2 for 3 months and was very glad for the optionYMMV

@dabeaz @shriramk Yes! I started with 1.4 and then did a lot of work on 1.5.2 and just loved it.Python's surface got too big for me to hold in my head and the emphasis on OO in the ecosystem and in general coupled with the lack of immutable data structures pushed me away. When I tried to use it again with a Peter Norvig style, OO-loving colleagues objected.Moved to Clojure which being an unknown allowed me to be left alone.

@ramin_hal9001 @steriana @Pitosalas Ramin,You are not wrong in your argument about the deficiencies of Python. But that doesn't mean that a better language is the way to go. Richard Gabriel tackled an issue very similar to this one:https://www.dreamsongs.com/RiseOfWorseIsBetter.html

@yogthos The real issue is that there is no clear Democratic project. Take, for instance, global warming. The progressive option is to push for transit and walk-back suburban development. But they go for what's good for corporations: EVs that are highly subsidised AND protected through tariffs. The only policies that have broad support have to do with "cultural issues": abortion, gay rights, etc.BTW, the GOP also favours corporations

@stephenrkell The people at #Spritely have a project called #Goblins that implements object capability security. It's implemented in Guile (also Racket), which can be learned quickly by eager students, particularly since you only need a subset of the language to play with #Goblinshttps://spritely.institute/goblins/
