Als Betreiber einer medizinisch orientierten Instanz kann ich Dir ganz klar sagen, dass die Wenigsten (wenn überhaut irgendwer) “Instanzen die zur Bubble passen” suchen.Man sucht nach dem grellen Sonnenschein der Visibilität. Und ob gescripteter Fernsehkomiker ohne echtes Interesse am Fediverse oder das Microsoft Outlook des Fediverse, man geht nach name recognition, nicht nach Fediverse-Zuträglichkeit.

Ich denke nicht, dass Themeninstanzen für thematische Sachen wichtig sind. Eher für Moderations- und Admin-Sachen. Z.B. wie mit Speech umgegangen wird, wie wissenschaftlicher oder sozialer Diskurs angegangen wird.Für medic.cafe hatten wir auch im Auge, dass durch das pre-screening von Nutzern man immerhin eine halbwegs stimmige Bestätigung hatte, dass die Person auf der anderen Seite medizinisches Fachpersonal war.Ich denke, dass eine Instanz mit Feuerwehrleuten eine andere Moderations- und Filterpolitik hat als eine für Nonnen. Micro-Instanzen und offener Transport mit Filtern am Endgerät des Endusers machen das möglich. Mega-Instanzen können das nicht. Oder kleinere “heterogene” Setups.

datenschutzfreundlichen sozialen MedienMögt ihr mir mal erklären, inwiefern das Fediverse „datenschutzfreundlich“ ist? Ich würde jetzt mal, ganz unbedarft, behaupten, dass die unverschlüsselte Übertragung von Daten zwischen Servern deren Besitzer oft wenig oder gar nicht als Personen und meistens ausschließlich als Pseudonym bekannt sind, und deren Daten oft auf S3 Servern und S3 kompatiblen Servern in den USA landen, da nicht ganz so viel Jubel hervorrufen würde, wenn’s nicht auf dem “Muck Fusk” Medium passieren würde.Da alle Daten potenziell allen Servern zur Verfügung stehen, Software wie Misskey jeden Aufruf von bestimmten Seiten auch an eine unbekannte Domain in den USA übermittelt, und mehr, finde ich so eine Aussage sehr… gewagt.

Ach? Sicher? “ist nutzbar” und “zumindest Mastodon” zeugt aber schon davon, dass Ihr den irrwitzigen Marketinglügen aufgesessen seid, dass Mastodon = Fediverse und dass alle Mastodon Admins sich für Datenschutz interessieren.Eine Aussage wie “datenschutzkonformes Netzwerk” wenn ein nicht unerheblicher Teil des Netzwerks weder auf Mastodon noch in DE stattfindet, ist hyperbol wenn nicht sogar gefährlich.Ich kann auch Lynx verwenden, wenn ich Webseiten abrufe. Würdet Ihr also das World Wide Web als “datenschutzkonformes” Netzwerk bezeichnen? Oder kommt es stark auf den Server und den Client an, ob es das ist? Sollte man dann nicht von solchen Aussagen absehen, die nur der Hyperbole dienen, und stattdessen differenzierter denken?

Den ersten Punkt streite ich nicht ab.Dann wird’s schon etwas dünner. Jeder Admin kann, potenziell, die DM seiner:ihrer Nutzer einsehen. Wir hatten jetzt zwei Fälle, in denen die Admins einer Instanz in den USA genau das getan haben, um “problematische Nutzer” zu identifizieren. Damit ist man im Fediverse auch dann nicht “datenschutzkonform” unterwegs, wenn man von social.bund.de mit Menschen auf, sagen wir mal, badactor.com, per DM kommuniziert.Das Netzwerk kann, aus Gründen, nicht “datenschutzkonform” sein, und die einzelnen Instanzen sind es, bis zum Beweis des Gegenteils bei jeder der 12k Instanzen mit mehr als 100 Nutzern, auch nicht. Dem muss man sich bewusst sein, dann kann man entsprechend handeln. Aber wenn eine Bundesbehörde ein solches Statement publiziert, dann ist das Zündstoff in einer, durch Unsicherheit, Fremdeln, Missinformation, und dem “new kid” Syndrom, schon ohnehin sehr wackeligen Situation.

Unpopular Opinion to #1000DaysOfCovid: SARS-CoV-2 is, as much as it is a dangerous, deadly, and debilitating pathogen, more on the “lighter” side of what pathogens can and could do to humankind.The past precisely 1000 days since the first WHO recommendations almost all communication, medially but also medically, has been tainted by greed, simplification, demarcation, side-taking, politicking, and sloganeering.Development of measures was led by financial and corporate interests, measures were hyped or put down, depending on feelings and sensitivities, not the commons and public health were first to be considered but elections, income statements, and cronyism.Because SARS-CoV-2 is, as far as dirty bastards go, not the worst that could have happened to us, we are coasting OK. Not great, not fine, but OK. But whatever the next pathogen to emerge, and one will emerge, might be much more injurious.We had a chance to make this right. To communicate clearly, to focus on the commons and public health, to state harsh but true realities rather than playing with hopes and fears to manipulate.The spread of pathogens is a function of the mobility of humankind and moderated by it. The more mobile we become, the more likely a debilitating pathogen will go from a small epidemic, the likes of which we have observed and largely ignored for decades, centuries even, to a global pandemic. The bubonic plague killed 200 million people, in a much less mobile world (but mobile enough for it to spread).We can’t dial back mobility, we can’t become xenophobic, cloistered, tribes again. But we can learn from this, accept (and this includes everyone, not just the antivax morons and antimasker idiots) that we were too led by fears and hopes, by simplification, by media click baits and politicking this time, and that we need to, urgently, all change how we deal with pathogenic spread.We need to accept that social norms may not be medically and scientifically the most beneficial scenario, but that rather than dismantling society, we need to find ways to fight around them. We also must become MUCH more sensitive to antibiotic stewardship (my money is on a resistant bacterium being the next big killer, they already are but don’t generally murder the kind of person that makes for good clickbait articles). We must take health threats such as the rise of obesity related clinical overload and deaths, pollution related health problems, and nosocomial infections MUCH more serious. We have to sensitize each other for good hygiene and employers against the drive to place employee presence over employee health. And, yeah, we should probably normalize wearing medical masks if you feel sick or have a cough.It’s been a 1000 days since the WHO announcement. Monday, March 2 2020. 1000 days since I wrote, to much hate mail from all corners of the Internet since, my first #mediverse post about SARS-CoV-2. And nothing much has changed.1000 days is a hell of a long time. It’s a shame how little we’ve advanced since.
