I wish I could @mention somebody by typing their display name and not specifically their username. The amount of times I want to toot at a friend or include them in a reply, but I can't remember their handle, so I have quit my toot and go check their profile. Am I missing a trick? Hmm wait, I see I can do that on the web/PWA, but not in the official @Mastodon #mastodon Android app or in #fedilab @apps – not sure if that's an API limitation or just something the apps are yet to implement...

@stux Fair point. Speaking for myself, my only grievance on this – when it comes to quote toots, anyway – is that most of the responses I'd seen were of intractable refusal, whereas "we're looking into it", "we're discussing it", "we're consulting with experts", might've been better received. For what it's worth. 🤷♂️I've since seen that there are a number of threads on github where the vibe is definitely more of a discussion, but even there, there's a huge number of devs and admins who can't accept that maybe they know a little less about the psychology of UX than they do about engineering.

This is what happens when rich people and their govt cronies convince voters that the biggest problems are these small-time issues and not the hundreds of billions of dollars that would be paid in tax if not for the technically legal avoidance going on with business and income tax at every bloody level, and a complete lack of guts in government. Paying as little tax as possible is a badge of honour; people literally boast about it and accountancy firms build their marketing around it. It's pretty sick, really, the open "it's a dog eat dog world" vibe of it. I'm no socialist (I certainly have socialist leanings but I confess I'm mostly still a consumer capitalist), but I sure as shit don't want my nest egg to grow at the expense of the commonwealth. https://aus.social/@geordie/109717858267293874

@Jdreben well yeah, but most of those futures in fiction come after either a catastrophic war with billions dead, or the invention of something that completely undoes scarcity in one fell swoop. Obviously I'd love the later, but the former seems more likely... And I'm not sure I'd survive to see the beautiful utopia of a post-money world!

Quite enjoying the vibe at #blueskysocial, but also having a damn hard time with going back to so few characters to post with. Six months on Mastodon has really got me obsessed with the freedom to blog in a post. And editing! You can't edit your posts on bluesky, argh!

UPDATE: They're adding a longer blog-like post form that can appear in your main feed, truncated. They also have an edit button on the roadmap. (Their main dev is actually extremely responsive, which is frankly awesome.)
