This is something Friendica does. But since Twitter doesn't speak ActivityPub natively I don't think it federates beyond the Friendica account where you're connected.

This has been suggested many times and I implemented such a thing for the Zot stack - so sure. However it seems that what you're looking for may be answered by Nodeinfo. The only issue I see there is that nodeinfo is optional on some platforms; although I believe it is built-in to the Mastodon and Pleroma core code. You're likely to have battles no matter what you do because these kinds of information are also incredibly useful to "bad guys" of all kinds and most of my own fediverse software is branding agnostic; the name, version, and associated logos can be changed at any time. Good luck with that.

The first thing most people do when they create a WordPress site is find a new theme and then edit all the theme files to their liking and then play with plugins until they're happy. This is why site version control is needed. Not for WordPress itself, but for all your custom mods.

I remember this quote which was attributed to an unknown original American:"Only a white man could think that you can cut a foot off the top of a blanket and sew it onto the bottom and create a longer blanket".

Does it bug anybody else that #Friendica replies don’t have the ats in the post text? Nope. It bothers me that Mastodon requires mentions in replies because they can't be bothered to provide comment notifications and instead re-use mention notifications to perform this task and then gets their users to bully other platforms to fully implement this bastardisation of the protocol. ActivityPub comments only require inReplyTo, so a comment with no mention at all is completely legal and should be delivered and should generate a comment notification. It puts the display name instead of the username in the text.It seems kind of silly to have a 'display name' and not use it when displaying your name. In any event my own software lets you decide what to use and rewrites incoming mentions to match your preference.

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

In my single young adult years (this is going back a few years) I used to buy picture frames at the local discount store and set them around the house. Picture frames nearly always come with sample prints of imaginary and attractive family members.

I'm actually now seriously considering getting my daughter an ISA tester for Xmas. I think she would be stoked. Thanks.

We can disagree, but that's OK. If you get a nodeinfo with a blank software version, are they no longer a member of the fediverse?

Nah, I'll just use a random string for text fields that are none of anybody's damn business and random numbers for those that are defined as numeric. Then there's no need to change or clarify anything.

It's all about privacy. Around 95% of our sites are standalone, private communities made up of friends and families. Most of them do not want to be tabulated and data-farmed; and only a handful of them have turned on the nodeinfo plugin for this reason. If you want these communities to ever show up as participants in the fediverse, nodeinfo has to be more concerned with privacy and their rights than data collection and big data's rights. Since it is not, there isn't much incentive for any of these hundreds of sites to be included.

They made me a multi-millionaire (on paper) and then took it all away again. They bought my company and dismantled it and sent me to work in an actual insane asylum. Sent in the SWAT team to protect their assets whenever there were layoffs (which there were a lot of). So yeah, I remember... They worked us to the bone but groups@aol was my baby - AND we converted the whole bloody company including Time-Warner to ESMTP. So there were a few bright moments.

No, parts of the fediverse have always been like that. Some of us know that there is only one way this can end, and it will not be pleasant for anybody involved.

Was going to suggest something with setting the prompt (PS1); which I use to display the current directory and git branch (if applicable) by calling a helper function. The helper function could be anything. But direnv looks like it could be a winner.

I remember long ago driving through Utah USA which is a lot like the Aussie outback and it was a hot summer day - not a cloud in the sky. Oops. There was one little cloud in the distance. As I got closer, it turns out the cloud was solid black and hovering over a small town in the middle of Woop-woop and throwing lightning and hail at this little community of a couple of hundred people. When I reached the city limits it was a horrific storm. When I got to the city limits on the other side it was all over - desert and sun again for another 200km. I think of it as the village of the damned.
