@FranckLeroy One can’t be one’s own everything. I can’t host my own Fedi node, synthesize my own LSD, cut my own hair, recycle my own PET, ferment my own Jenkem, educate my own children, grow my own weed, dig my own post holes, process my own coca leaves, do my own taxes, cook my own bath salts, run my own food co-op, brew my own DMT, and fix my own bike. Something has to give. That’s the whole reason we have society, money and cryptocurrency in the first place: so we don’t all individually have to do everything, and well enough that it’s worth the effort.Fortunately I live someplace where the state does not interfere very much with my procurement of the things I require to have life and meaning, but not everyone is that fortunate, and that is one of the use cases cryptocurrency exists to serve. There are many valid criticisms of how people have chosen to use cryptocurrency and there are many valid concerns about how some of the popular ones have been designed. However, many people take a position that it is nothing more than a scam with no valid use cases at all. That is dogmatic.

@codewiz It uses so much fatuous speech. The contrivance of first person pronouns, which it doesn’t genuinely understand. The apologies and thank-yous for things that it does not have the capacity to remember outside the context of a single conversation thread. It affects emotions even while telling you that it cannot behave with bias or have opinions. It’s all a ridiculous set of contradictions rooted in stupid science fiction tropes instead of the actual technology’s fundamental reality. I hate it so much. Its outputs are designed to an aesthetic philosophy that I 100% oppose. Computers should talk like computers, if they must talk at all.

@jgoerzen @FalkAppel Where you live isn’t some accident you couldn’t have controlled, it’s an intentional choice. You are blessed with tremendous adjacency and personal power compared to anyone I know in my personal life. You’ve designed your life around certain goals and values which prioritize certain things over having physical access to people in places without spending a lot of communal resources. I get that you have financial and time incentives that affect your choices to fly, but those are consequences of your other choices, not something that just happens you have no control over.
