@orionwl @michaelfolkson I'm only still there, fwiw, to use the API to collect the tweets from immunologists and researchers and to occasionally connect with vendors. It really is a degenerate place. I made the mistake of following a bunch of Chinese propaganda mouthpieces: wow, incredible the stuff they post. Just.. incredible.

@livestradamus @harding @jb55 It's non-repudiable. This will likely make it unattractive for "some" people.

@livestradamus @harding @jb55 There's no way to assert in the future you didn't say that thing. Even Signal doesn't do that.

@harding @livestradamus @jb55 :-/ Yeah I'm aware of that. Point is, even DKIM verifiability is a liability for using gmail. Publishing with a signature means you can never delete your drunk blog. It would be easy to post in a way which is repudiable—it is only a benefit to the readers, not the publisher.

@harding @livestradamus @jb55 Hash commitments are "stuff I promise I witnessed, no really," and not "the person with control of this key definitely published this." It's not a good idea to publish in a way that your words could be used against you forever, because nobody is perfect, and sometimes Snowden doesn't want to leave evidence on his computer that he was the leaker.

@harding @livestradamus @jb55 No, this is wrong. This is only a benefit to the readers (including attackers.) This is just putting more risk on the publishers, which means ultra-high quality posts are going to avoid it. Publisher-desired no -repudiability can just post a signed message. With nostr they have no choice—nostr forces them to key manage themselves, which is an endless failure.

@harding @livestradamus @jb55 A huge amount of things that would otherwise have been said, won't be under a no-opt-in pure non-repudiable publishing infrastructure. That's fine that you're onboard with it: I personally know extremely high-signal individuals that won't use non-repudiable publishing and will just stay silent instead.

@orionwl The old problem. The NetBSD project I think was partially destroyed as a result of a commercialization attempt (Wasabi.) The people making money caused a significant schism with the people who didn't. It really does seem to require post-fortune backing.

@NunyaBidness His incredible volume of sheer first-world waste he posts as though his value judgements are the only valid ones for the use of energy are .. so cringe.

@NunyaBidness @Corntango This was exactly what some people and I spotted some time ago with personalities on twitter trying to attract paid followers for scamcoin pumping. Perhaps.. 5-7 years ago I guess?

@lukedashjr Did you happen to work out what they exploited so I can shut mine off in the event I'm running it too?

@lukedashjr Like, you booted from external media? So someone knew what you were going to do and supplied you with backdoored media? In other words, I'm likely fine?

@mukona @lopp About the only thing I'd say was logically inconsistent about this was the speculation about the hardware (there's another more-likely possibility of hardware type Lopp is missing) and that Satoshi didn't turn off his miner, I would guess he probably just withheld block transmission. Otherwise good article!

@pete @pwuille Ehh, if it weren't for Google there's have likely been a cleaner solution quite some time ago. :-( Progress halted after the corpos snapped up everyone and FLOSS progress was destroyed.

@pete @pwuille An old-school anti-spam mechanism which is ~100% effective is to ensure that literally every contact one makes has a separate contact email others can make use of. Automatically-negotiated contact exchange to give people something similar in functionality seems possible, esp. since everyone uses mobile devices anyway.

@pete But, unfortunately, it looks like most of the people who would be motivated to make such a thing have essentially been all hired and stripped out from any remotely-related FLOSS project. Almost none of the floss projects I know from 15-20 years ago has survived.
