@chris he's quite good in Contact too. I actually like that movie despite them simplifying the plot quite a bit (and Jena Malone as the young Ellie Arroway is amazing)

I used to think the #echochamber within the US is bad enough, but compared to the gulf between what people within the #greatfirewallofchina (and those outside who read their news) think and the rest of the world, that's nothing.It's rather worrying that we (humanity) go out of our way to create the post-modernist "truth is relative" outcome everyone claim to denounce. And that some Western leaders clearly want to ape the worst parts of information-starved autocracies, which will make it worse

@paulakreuzer @hund @joacim that seems odd, DuckDuckGo does not detect any tracker. And Facebook doesn't offer hosting or cloud services - since Parse was shut down.

@paulakreuzer @tc @hund @joacim I use Firefox with Facebook, Google, and Amazon containers - so they launch in sandboxes and trackers they insert in third party sites basically can't see squat

@kravietz wait, so #WhatsApp the app is E2E but accessing it via web means Google crawls it anyway? Ouch.Meanwhile @signalapp with much less funding managed to create secure desktop apps for multiple platforms, no problem (and don't require you to only have one active session, or be tethered to your phone)

@kravietz @signalapp oh, Jane Manchun Wong - she has a fan club at work.Going to read it, thanks, but WA group messages are E2EE, similar to Signal groups. There was a privacy controversy earlier over how when a participant changes keys (new phone or someone hijacked their SIM), WA doesn't inform other participants by default, while Signal does.
