@futurebird @SecondUniverse Wasps are the xenomorphs of the insect world.

@Nonilex This case is like the tagline from Alien vs. Predator: “Whoever win…we lose.”

@futurebird The notion of an open standard for publishing species diagnostic feature is delightful.

@JeanieBurrell @futurebird @BenjaminHCCarr It looks like this is *spores* surviving, rather than moss actually growing.

@futurebird @thejessiekirk Presumably the eyes are wrong as well, judging by the poster.I saw the movie way back, and all I remember is that the entomologist tracked the giant ants via the tracks they made, as if the tracks made by a gi-ant would look like those of a normal -sized ant).

@futurebird @thejessiekirk It’s delightful that you are such an expert yet so generous in your assessment of things like this. (I gather that real doctors have problems watching medical shows. Ditto for lawyers and legal shows.)

@futurebird I had understood that giant insects would collapse under their own weight.

@futurebird A large fish cryptic just seems lazy, like the locals aren’t even trying.

@futurebird Not stopping…what?(I like to think of a huge warehouse with 22,000 ant habitats, and you walking up to the last one on the final row, placing a queen inside, and saying “It is finally done.”)

@futurebird That’s a very cool way to feed larvae! What is the queen eating? Are you feeding her nectar of some kind?

@futurebird It’s wild that she can do all this with stored energy. And yeah, I’d love to be able to produce trophic eggs as a way to lose weight.

@futurebird @twizzt Tangential question: why do wasps have such narrow waists? (Or do they?)
