I want a Fairphone that runs GNOME. Or rather I wish I could run GNOME on a Fairphone 5 (without a ton of work and missing features). I know that the phone stuff is a ways off from being daily drivable so I wouldn’t ship it to random people but, it would be cool to have a non-android linux phone option that wasn’t super old and I really like Fairphone’s whole sustainability thing. Bonus points if I could actually buy a Fairphone 5 (not available in the US).#GNOME #LinuxMobile #Fairphone

@hehemrin I’ve heard of them. They run Ubuntu Touch for their non-android option, which I have tried and is not great in my opinion. Also they aren’t available in the US either. I’m kinda only interested in GNOME’s take on mobile atm. The other options haven’t really appealed to me design / UX wise.

For the record, when I say I want a phone option that isn’t android or iOS what I don’t mean is I want to sacrifice all the things that make a smartphone useful or good. I don’t want an old phone with a non-functional camera or something. I want a polished well designed/thought out experience just like I would get on those other phones. I don’t want build my phone I want to use it. It would just be cool if it came from less evil companies with more private software.

@Adam Windows Phone and Zune we’re pretty cool but I have a hard time pining for a world where Microsoft had a even bigger grip on the software market.

I truly don’t understand why people think they need chrome/chrome based browsers. Anecdotally I have never once had any issues with Firefox in the last at least 5 or so years and almost all of the ones before that were due to artificial user agent sketchiness. I personally also think FF dev tools are better. I’m sure there are some legitimate reasons but I wonder how many people are just parroting that chrome is better because “reasons” or use it just because that’s what they’re used to.
