Wow, the Safari team is crushing it lately! We're finally getting to the point where web apps can be first class apps on #iOS with push notifications and app badges! This really signals a (continuing?) shift in tone from Apple about their stance towards web based apps outside of their store and I love it.And improved support for 3rd party browser! Maybe soon the Webkit browser lock-in ends!I mean, Webkit is looking better and better, but choice is good.https://webkit.org/blog/13878/web-push-for-web-apps-on-ios-and-ipados/#WebDev

@clive @thoughtfulnz “I was engaged in an activity so thoroughly weird in Illinois farm-territory”An example of how thoroughly engrained car-culture & its infrastructure has become in society. For the at least half of time those places have been farms, and longer in places with older agrarian practices like Europe, people biking, walking, and horseback riding through would have been the norm and not weird.Always nice to read about someone exploring w/out a car though.

Hey NZ, don’t forget that Covid boosters are still free, available, and you can get them every six months. The virus is spreading quite a bit more lately (even as we come into summer and outside activities). Good time to top up before the holidays and bring with whānau.

Saw that Microsoft saying it’s a website’s fault if your password gets swept up by Recall if the site doesn’t cloak the password entry field following “standard internet protocols” which completely ignores the accessibility case for showing someone what they’ve typed in to their password field. Pretty sure every password manager lets you do this, and a ton of sites as well. What a head-in-the-sand take.

While #discord is the topic de jour (well, d'hier probably with how fast things move) and people are talking about moving to forums (yay!), can someone explain to me how Discourse became the primary #forum for so many sites? I see it all over for software sites (Signal uses it for their community, for example). I just find it... very non-intuitive to use and confusing to look at. If the old school BB style didn't agree with you, themes exist? Or was it just hatred of PHP that caused the move?Honestly, not sure what it is that I don't like, but I've always felt lost on a Discourse forum in a way I never did on a phpBB or Simple Machines forum.Maybe I'm just old-man-yells-at-clouds.gif 🤷

As an aside, if your site has a forum on a subdomain, put a link back to your primary domain in the header! And don't use your standard logo as the link to the forum home, that's lying! 😠
