@art I've been enjoying POP_OS! as a daily driver, while my servers are all Debian/Armbian. But I grok. A clean Debian install is just enough. Clean. Good news: It's not hard or expensive to swap.

@lauren I want to be legal. I want to reward good content creators so they make more of what I like. But they also keep make being a "pirate" more tempting. I have the skills, the tech and the bandwidth. I hear the wind in the sails of the ship saying come sail with me.

@tk I started using PHP heavily in 2003, coming from created previous serious web apps in Perl. I'll admit I had to look it up, but that was PHP 4.

@lauren I sure miss pure news streams.. just the news, no commentary, little spin. On the web Reuters seems to be a bigger view. I haven't seen Newsy or Chedder for a while but they used to be good.

@lauren I understand that even picking what stories to run, picking the facts to share, in a deadpan factual voice/tone is (or at least usually is) spin. Just wish there was as little of it as possible when labelled "news".

@lauren If it continues the slightly humorous twist on Worf, meditation and all, I'm all in.

@brainwagon You sound like where I was 7 years ago. Asterisk is amazing, perfect for small VoIP phone systems. Freeswitch is different, solves other related problems. You probably don't need/want it. Probably. While FreePBX is often the answer for an interface, it is also a fat bloated do everything pig. I haven't used it personally in ages, but @NerdUno IncrediblePBX is worth exploring first. Might even be exactly what you want.

@publius @brainwagon @NerdUno AsteriskStart with the latest version of a Debian based distro you can.YMMV but I'd start with:apt-get install asterisk asterisk-config asterisk-modules asterisk-mp3 asterisk-voicemail asterisk-core-sounds-en asterisk-core-sounds-en-g722 asterisk-core-sounds-en-gdahdi-linux dahdi joe nmap sniffit iptraf asterisk-opus asterisk-flite asterisk-mobilesngrep sipgrep iptraf nmapThen the hard part is config files for /etc/asterisk

@publius @brainwagonWhere are you getting the incoming call from? An analog POTS line? If so, possible to DTMF decode, but I'd still use Asterisk. Although it's getting harder to get POTS into a box, much less common.

@publius @brainwagon aka "Art Project".. ;) yeah, I'd be tempted to use an audio amp for the sound and a DTMF decoder for the incoming menu. Check out MultiMon. An example: https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/f0wmux/could_use_some_help_with_multimonng_for_decoding/

@bobdobberson We are comprised of "facades". Not lies/fiction, but versions of ourselves as presented and perceived through the lenses of the situation and relationships. We will become those stories we tell ourselves and others. The trick is to tell ourselves better stories. Or "pull the wool over our own eyes". :)

@Sabex Do you mean if-config? apt get install net-tools - I tried researching iftools 'cuz I did not know it. But while i'm trying to learn "ip..." and the new way, I still prefer if-config or editing config files. "nm-cli" is pretty useful though if using net manager.

Am watching posts by normalbeginning Linux users worry about the "root" account being enabled and how to disable it. There are a thousand plus systems (servers and devices) I've only been root on. My rule is you don't get to login to a production system until you've wiped or fubared a few less critical systems. To this day the "rm" command gets a pause, hands off the keyboard sanity check before pressing enter. Gotta learn. #Linux #sysadmin #root

Started watching the latest Dune movie again, it's as awesome as such a movie can be. But it doesn't have those words and phrases behind the scenes that make a reader, especially a young one like I was, pause, Read it again. Consider it. Add it and our thoughts about it to our brain. . Thank you dunequotes@botsin.space for the reminders. #Dune

Why not use XYZ?I create a lot of my own sysadmin tools instead of useing "popular" ones. By the time I understand the common tool, and how it works, and all the options, and want to extend or change something: I could have created my own doing just (and only) the thing I needed. Also, I stopped using X as a variable, peeps might think I'm talking about Twitter. Am afraid to go see what XYZ.com might be. #programming #utilities #devops #sysadmin

@stefano I've made an effort to make sure my own writing is just a litle quirky and have personality. Which I am sure the A1's/LLM's will get better at being. At some point, the bubble will crash, AI's will be expensive and only used for things they are needed for, and we will need and appreciate your skills.
