@boilingsteam I was responsible, only bought one game. South Park: the fractured but whole. Been on my wishlist for years, but I hate giving Ubisoft money. With the special+complete the set discount it came in at just 13.50 though, I couldn't resist that one. I'll actually PLAY it after I finish my first CP2077 playthrough. That one doesn't count, I bought it on the humble bundle sale.

@tzimmer_history I would argue that a form of Trunpism without Trump's pathologies would be MORE dangerous.A fascist who can actually get things done is worse than a fascist who can't.

@stux this is the Alien Versus Predator reboot we deserve, NOT the Alien Versus Predator reboot we need.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP it also says you CANNOT stop them from reproducing it and sharing it, which is at odds with RH's T.O.S. - and THAT is probably a license violence and will probably end up in a lawsuit.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP interesting, every question I've ever asked him, or seen him asked, he was always very definitive very quickly. This is actually an unprecedented attempt to subvert the GPL. So much so even he doesn't have a ready answer.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP most people agree that ONLY making code available to binary recipients is compliant, shitty but compliant. But the GPL also states you must provide it under the same terms, so that means with the right to redistribute. Their TOS however says you will lose access if you redistribute. So if I buy RHEL and redistribute one package, I lose access to the source for the rest ? I think that's almost certainly a violation and I fully anticipate a lawsuit over that.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP okay, that detail may push it into fully compliant. But so was TiVo at the start. A key change in GPLv3 was made to prevent what they did being done again. It may actually end up that GPLv4 ends up having a clause to specifically prohibit (some off) what RH is doing here.I wouldn't speculate about what form such may take, and I guess RMS is still pondering too: and probably talking to Moglen about it.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP it's been almost as long since GPLv3 as it was between GPL2 and GPL3.And something else changed: most projects that adopted GPL3 added the "or later" clause, I did in all mine for example, so upgrade adoption will be a lot smoother next time. This was specifically done to prevent another painful and fractured license upgrade cycle. Most projects will automatically change licence if a v4 comes out.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP it took a couple of years with GPLv3, but as I said, once published: most projects will automatically update. You cannot retroactively change a license, but RHEL could overnight find tens of thousands of projects they cannot get a security patch for !

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP indeed. I would not expect to see one for at least a few years, just as it took several years to finalise the writing of version 3. There are a lot more stakeholders than when 2 was written.

@vmstan @boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP I've met him a few times at conferences and such, and once got to take him on a multihour nature tour to take photos, so I got to ask him plenty of questions in between. He is definitely not a person who struggles with questions of ethics, he can generally instantly draw a line from basic principle to specific situation and say exactly what be believes the right thing to do is.

@rdaily wouldn't the answer be: "Yes congresperson, we know of over a billion non-human species ranging from bacteria to the blue whale".

@stux that was actually a real idea in the history of space exploration, thankfully never actually built.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_(nuclear_propulsion)But its saner cousins do exist. We don't use them in atmo though, firstly because radiation is bad but also they have quite low thrust so are only suitable for orbital stages https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_thermal_rocket

@BrodieOnLinux the problem is, the good things AI are actually good at - don't make money. The people pouring billions into AI aren't interested in accessibility, they are interested in cutting their wage bills by 90℅. A promise that AI cannot actually deliver on.Its a bubble that's doomed to pop, but this may be one of the positives we can salvage after it bursts

During a conversation just now, I had a sudden realisation.Fiction has previously predicted an AI that functions almost exactly the way LLMs do !It sycophantically agrees with whatever you want , gladly shares other people's private information with you and has no real safeguard about what input it shares with what user...ChatGPT is just Yes Man from Fallout New Vegas but with way less personality !
