@tuxedocomputers @kde maybe time to update this article https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Whats-the-deal-with-X11-and-Wayland-_1.tuxedo with the timeline of the transition to Wayland as the default?

@BrodieOnLinux I guess GIMP will finish the port to GTK4 by the time GTK5 starts gaining traction

@boilingsteam I hadn't heard of this engine before but it looks really cool! Gives off a very professional look for a community project

@djsumdog @unix_discussions I don't think desktop Linux really needs a plan B here. If Firefox dies or becomes significantly worse than today, most distros will probably just switch to Chromium (or something based on it) and call it a day. As much as I like Firefox, I think a lot of users might actually prefer this. I see a lot of casual Linux users use Google Chrome already.

@tuxedocomputers @kde How much does Tuxedo contribute to the development of the Plasma desktop? I think a post like this would be a great opportunity to highlight that (assuming you do contribute, and if not, you really should start considering how important it is for your business)

Hot take: Unity's new monetization strategy is actually pretty great, as it's promoting open source and free-as-in-freedom software better than any open game engine could do alone. Sometimes people need a bit of an emergency before they take action to break an unsustainable pattern.

@celioreyes @system76 @tuxedocomputers If what you're looking for is a dedicated Linux laptop with KDE and a GPU, then Tuxedo is a really strong option. Yes, they have Nvidia cards, but everything is nicely integrated in Tuxedo OS and you generally don't have to think about it.If I remember correctly, they're working on a laptop with AMD as well.

@tuxedocomputers Ever since Tuxedo OS upgraded to kernel 6.5 I've had lots of crashes that happen after my InfinityBook has been up and running for a couple of hours. Rolling back to 6.2 fixes the issue. Is this a known problem?#linux #TUXEDOOS2

@tuxedocomputers Is Tomte supposed to remove old kernel versions after a while? Because for me, on TuxedoOS on an Infinitybook, apt upgrades and Tomte will occasionally fail with cryptic error messages. The solution seems to be to manually remove old kernels every once in a while (to make room on the boot partition, I assume?)This could be tricky for beginners to figure out, so this would be nice if Tomte handled automatically

@tuxedocomputers it's not that I need it, it's that TuxedoOS on the Infinitybook is configured by default in such a way that everyone will need it, or else they won't get any updates for anything after a couple of months of use. I just figured you would want to know, if you weren't already aware of this issue.

@tuxedocomputers VS Code isn't actually open source, VS Codium is. They've added proprietary additions to the standard VS Code (presumably mainly for telemetry, but there's no easy way to tell)

@boilingsteam FNA is such an underappreciated piece of software. Makes it really simple to put together nice 2D games. Keeping the Xbox 360 era indie/arcade dev experience alive :)

@tuxedocomputers The vast majority of PCs, both Windows and Linux, are vulnerable to LogoFail vulnerability. I'm assuming this goes for Tuxedo computers as well? Is this something that Tomte will fix automatically or is further user action needed?

@aral As a point of reference, on Tuxedo computers running TuxedoOS you can set the maximum charging limit to 80%, 90% or 100%. When charged to this limit, it is shown to other programs (such as KDE's battery indicator) as 100%.I think this is a reasonable behavior, fairly easy to understand. And the battery settings contains a brief explanation of the tradeoffs.

@BeAware I guess you could also use NextCloud for that. It's very flexible

@BeAware It does, it has plenty of collaboration features. IIRC it does require every user to sign up for some kind of account, but I don't remember the details. That said, I have no idea if it's a good fit for your needs, I just thought I'd bring it up since it's a very flexible tool that can be used in many situations where it might not be immediately obvious
