@yogthos @CrabDemon Take a look at the faces, the lines are bright red. I'm guessing the lines are extra saturated to make up for the desaturated pixels, so the average saturation equals the original photo's saturation.I bet if you blurred and shrank the illusion photo and the original, they'd look pretty similar.

@yogthos @CrabDemon You just reminded me, I made a similar illusion with a batman model that flashes between red, green and blue. Hopefully the framerate isn't killed on mastodon.

@yogthos You probably have seen a subtler version of it without realizing. Some cheaper monitors will flash between two colours really fast to simulate a higher colour depth.
