@lynnesbian So yeah, agreed, but also there's actually more of a point to this resurgence of faux-currency stuff in games: They're cross-platform, so you can get around the other platform holders dumb bs about "you bought this digital thing elsewhere so you can't have it here you'd have to rebuy it", cos you're buying the currency, and redeeming it for the thing?Capitalism uwu

@lynnesbian I think they'd end up being not-crossplatform if they did it like that because of the platform holders rules, like how the currencies are locked to the platform you buy them on. It's just a weird workaround around these dumb rules

@lynnesbian But then if that was the case, you'd be able to buy Fortnite V-Bucks with your Nintendo money, and then move to Playstation, log into your Epic Account, and all your V-Bucks are there. But instead the V-Bucks you buy are locked to the platform you bought them on, whereas ones you unlock in game are cross-platform?

@lynnesbian Basically! I guess I'm just slightly over-sensitive to the "these devs are being crappy" as a student gamedev, when it's more of a "these stores are being crappy" issue. I'm very sure the devs hate this crap as much as the customers
