It’s a weird head space when you’re excited about WWDC and worried about the potential collapse of your country.

The way I see it, I honestly wouldn’t even stress out over debt. Countries where cities get taken over by the military and massacres are a realistic event aren’t investable. Your USD denominated debts ain’t gonna mean shit when people won’t take them to buy eggs.

Today marks four years of being on HRT, and to celebrate I took some portraits. So happy to have come this far.

Trans life is so precariously tied to government that all it takes is one bad election to make life inhospitable. I’m in NJ, there’s a governor’s race. Depending who wins, I might have to move. It’s a level of stress that other kinds of people don’t experience to the same degree. Not yet anyway.

It’s not really surprising then that a lot of trans people get preoccupied with the form that government takes. I think there’s this idea that a liberal or leftist government of some sort, either a reformation of our current system, or a new one, like communism would solve these issues.

But government reflects the ideologies and cultures of the people who enable it. I think there’s this white leftist blind spot of one big idea that covers all issues. That racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia ultimately leads back to classism and by extension capitalism. Defeat that, defeat all.

But as a black person, I’m not so enamored with this concept since I have to experience how deep, how base something like racism is. Like, babies display outgroup prejudices, kids discriminate on sex and race at three. There’s no Elon Musk that made them that way, they just are.

So no change in system, in of itself, would lead to the eradication of prejudice. It would just change the means of which power is conferred and distributed. And without actual cultural change, there is no guarantee of any directional change in policy. You could get something worse.

So to spring some hope of the eradication of transphobia via communist revolution? No, not on its own, not even the first step or the one you should waste effort investing in. Not when there are material things we can do now. Not when we can do these things would depending on government.

Because where I stand now, I’m one bad election from having to move. And if that happens, it’s because the people of my state willed it so. So I cannot hang my hopes and future on the collective will of people who would so carelessly toss it aside or disregard its importance.

@mekkaokereke plus there’s the inherit problem of being an open protocol allowing anyone to harass. Every now and then a Nazi will pick up one of my posts, boost it, and then I’m just inundated with Nazis that I have to clean up from a variety of instances they prop up to do these sorts of things after their old ones get more widely blocked. The fact that there can be no subscribed to, dynamic blocklist is a safety issue in of itself, and an impediment towards wider adaption.

Passports didn’t list sex until the 1970s when governments around the world stated freaking out about men with long hair and unisex clothes. Now we pretend like this was some always set, eminently important thing that must carry value. We only got it as enforcement of binary gender.

I think that enforcing AGAB markers on passports is conservative self soothing on the importance and necessity of binary gender. That it must intrinsically mean something. It’s a targeting vector more than anything, to inform authorities to the way the system thinks people should be treated.

If you view college diplomas as, effectively, work permits, and view yourself as entitled to the sort of work that a college degree enables you to pursue, then obviously that lowers your own expectations on how much work you should need to put in to get that degree. And if you are able to machinate a scenario to undermine academic rigor and are rewarded for it, then it undermines the value of college as a whole.

But that probably works out for you because what you don’t actually want the college degree as a prerequisite to work. You just want the ability to work, and different means to prevent other sorts of people from being able to get those jobs. Your competence is a non-factor because you presume your own inherit competency and others inherit incompetence.

Imagine wanting to be a psychologist, but not wanting to engage in, or interrogate the perspectives of others, or interact with any established literature on the topic of focus. This is apparently the crop of psychologists, and I guess all professionals, that are coming out of colleges in America.

You know, I thought that tarrifs would have been what would have made computers unaffordable at the beginning of the year. Never did it cross my mind that AI would make key components outside of GPUs scarce and expensive.

The buried lede in this is that in the last Trump admin, Maduro was indicted for leading Cartel de los Soles, an organization that does not exist and is a turn of phrase in Venezuela that describes corruption. Nevertheless, Trump declared it a terrorist organization back in July. Keep this in mind for the future when it comes to ANTIFA.
