@Rasp Fair enough. There probably doesn't exist a perfect game but a 10 to me is like... Something I deeply connect with? Celeste and Hollow Knight are to me probably as close to 10s as it'll get. Maybe also Her Story which is a game I would give my lungs to play for the first time again. I tend not to take umbridge that much with industry reviews unless the reviewer is really half-assing it? Really depends who is writing.

@Rasp I don't know if it pays to be this rigid about minutia. I can think of one or two examples where stalling the back end addition can be catastrophic if something goes wrong during the animation.

@Rasp Take the power cells from Jak And Daxter. If there's a power cut, or your console freezes, or just anything goes wrong during the animation, and that collectable was at the end of a particularly tough gauntlet... From a UX perspective, that is an incredible pain point. Rather bank and save that info just in case so you don't lose a player because you robbed them of something they worked very hard to get.

@Rasp Those animations are incredibly iconic, that's a hill you can die on alone. Who the player is mad at makes a difference. Mad at their municipality? They might come back. Mad at the developer? That game's getting shelved.Best to be flexible. When appropriate, bank data after an animation, when not, bank before.

@Rasp Dunno what to tell you. The bit where Aang gets home and looks for his people only to find skulls where the fire nation enacted a genocide... Just kinda powerful. Suppose take Sokka with a grain of salt, his character arc is very important, invite Oppa into your heart, that Bison deserves everything, and see it like a kid watching people with cool powers. I love air bending, loved air based powers. What kinda bendsr would you like to be?

#gamedev and #art and also #animation folks;I've been very happy with GraphicsGale for my game animations, pixel art and tileset making at low resolutions but I've got a cool graphics tablet now begging to be used at larger scale. I've heard #Krita can be used for this kinda thing, but I'd love to hear what what folks are using or even just what Krita users are doing for workflow. Any recommendations or weigh ins welcome.

You know, without Web3 NFT bullshit, there was a lost era of decentralized gaming back when it wasn't cost effective to have massive servers for users. Old games which used the host/join system. Hell, just games where one client in a LAN also acted as the server computer. I get it, it's just easier to run all your online interactions through Nintendo, but like... Those old games can still go online, whereas everything else just died. That's sad and we should make that a consideration again.

@skylar On a console everyone infamously struggled to get a hold of which to date is the most expensive gaming machine you can buy next to a high end PC.Like, not to bag on Stellar Blade, I believe people when they say it's fun, but also like... Huge asterisk on all that.

@yuki If it is a female vocalist I kinda hope it's Bonnie Fraser from Stand Atlantic. I'm deeply saddened that my international moots and followers can never understand how fucking funny it is when South Africans called the 49 "refugees" the voetsekkers(But I'll try. The original Dutch settlers who would later become modern day Afrikaners are known as the Voortrekkers, English equiv is roughly forebearers but directly translates to front pullers/movers. Voetsek is what you yell at a dog to leave you alone. Has the same connotation as fuck off, but ever so slightly more polite)

@futurebird Kinda feels like every platform is getting overrun by charlatans and grifters. Everyone is trying to become a digital landlord. Other day I tried to use an app that turns links into QR codes; It didn't do that. It actually made a QR code that linked to their platform which redirects to your link, and they'd break the link after 30 days if you didn't pay.Charlatans and grifters, I tell you.

Okay but like, the buried news here is that Valve and collaborators casually dropped an insanely good x86 to ARM translation layer to make the Steam Frame possible which is gonna be kind of a revolution in this space? And it's open source too?Like, gaming on ARM Linux is possible, and not in the "they ported Balatro to Android" way. A bunch of Android tablets are going to become very cool very quickly.

@yuki What were they doing before? With us our exams require digital invigilation, which uses a browser extension that records you via webcam and screen records at the same time, as well as "monitors for AI tools", whatever that means. We don't really get a false positives, issue is more about uploading an 1-3 hours of footage at the end, sometimes something can go wrong then (but they're pretty understanding and you get plenty of time for the extension to finish doing its thing)
