@mike 2018 was my first account on a server that shut down so I couldn't move my account over to this new instance as it would have been great to see 'joined 2018' :(

Lack of assistance from @Gargron has made the decision easy for us to shutdown mastodon.au in 7 days. Unfortunately when you can’t get any response after a week it’s clear there is no future for individual instances to operate. The requests was by email and direct messages on mastodon, but no reply. Apologies to everyone who uses mastodon.au.

@zog I thought about that too and the disadvantage 7 days will have for users, but why support something that you can't get answers to a simple request. Hopefully it sends a message they need to better look after instances who ask for assistance.

@mike The problem started a few months ago with server images not appearing on joinmastodon.org, after a few replies back and forth it just stopped, that was the first issue. The second happened last week when the server order changed on the website, I asked for mastodon.au to be moved into the general category (8th Feb) and got no response. Second issue was getting syd.social listed again no response (10 feb). I understand they'd get heaps of emails, but a week and no response for the primary website where people go to find servers is unacceptable. (cc @aussocialadmin as you asked to know more)

@elan @tw @aurynn @mike @aussocialadmin Support goes both ways as they're the primary location for people joining it's to send a message that you can't just ignore instance admins. Hopefully it helps others going forward and if they need help they get it.

@Gargron Prior to the order change there wasn't an issue, but when you rely on that list and you're no longer visible by default it's difficult. As per what we agreed to to be listed there, I'll maintain 3 months prior to turning off the light. Hopefully going forward there is more assistance for admins.
