Nearly everyone I knew growing up (rural KY) who said "I'm never gonna force church on my kid" is now a church regular because if they didn't go they wouldn't get free childcare and other support from their family. I get it to some extent, but considering they were such smug bastards about it you'd think they would at least TRY to figure something else out before putting their kids through the same psychological torment we experienced.Interestingly, the other people who still genuinely think the Christian church is evil are also childless by choice. Could be something to look into if any sociologists on here still have funding

I hate to say it, but I have a theory that the Zoomers on TikTok saying "you can be goth, punk, etc and still be conservative, it's just an aesthetic" are a direct result of millennials who talked all this shit and then assimilated into Trump's America no problem. I know I'm part of the nonprofit industrial complex and therefore part of the problem, but I do take politics and alternative culture's place in it seriously. This shit is not a thought experiment. Youth movements have historically pushed for progress and alternative music is a huge part of that, but somewhere along the line the music got separated from the culture and the youth movement fizzled out. There are Gen Z activists who are doing the work at great risk to themselves and I celebrate them for that. They don't even have support from their peers. It is very hard to hold onto hope and a vision of the future when everyone around you is saying "you're doing too much" and there are no elders around to look up to. It takes incredible willpower to draw on your inner strength in those circumstances.

I need to do some research and write a post about how recycling is harder than you think, at least around here. They are picky as shit and the plastic lobby mislead people into thinking anything with a ♻️ on it goes into the recycling bin, but really the ♻️ symbol only tells you what type of plastic it is. Not every type is recyclable

James Dobson’s 1978 book, The Strong-Willed Child, argues that children are “inherently sinful tyrants” and parents are obligated to “break their rebellious spirit” via physical and mental abuse. Elevating a wealthy male Twitch streamer to the status Hasan is at, where you’re not allowed to criticize or question him, is something a bunch of braindead morons would do. Taking it personally that someone doesn’t buy his bullshit is mental illness.
