@newt I think your standards are a bit high. It's not easy to shoot lightning from your fingertips.

@icedquinn Seems polite enough. Maybe just "feel free to use my revisions" so they don't think you expect them to continue your incomplete work

Let's say souls are real and can decouple from the brain.I keep thinking what would happen if you possess someone. You'll control their body, if you manage to be the dominant soul in the head. You might be abble to access memories as if they were yours. But, it'll feel like they were always yours. You likely won't have your own memories. You forget everything about yourself. Your personality is practically gone. You might have even forgotten that you're possessing someone (other than the fact that you're sharing a body with the possessed). You won't know how to get back let alone realise you can.

I guess possession only makes sense if you look at it from a different way:You possess, but it doesn't mean you jump from one body to another. Your soul stays in place. You send a shard of yourself into the possessed, and you remote into it.This does have the added challenge of the possessed only having to excorsise the weaker shard. You'll have to catch them off guard and you might not hold them for long.

A shortage of workers and a cultural "why bother" attitude toward full-time jobs is incredible and exactly what our society needs right now. Not sarcastic. This is a healthy incentive towards more robotics and less working for other people's dreams.Robots taking jobs doesn't cause any problems when no human wants to do the jobs.

@jimmac Aside from performance, gnome shell would be great for phones with just three changes:- Apps are always maximized- Apps always take up one desktop, and one desktop always has one app- The Activities screen is opened by dragging up from the bottom of the touchscreen

Most climate activists are watermelons: green on the outside, red on the inside.I'm starting to believe free software evangelists are the same. Don't have a catchy term for it yet though.

Free and open source software being just one of many battlegrounds for the socialists to transform society to their vision. For a long time i surpressed this, saying open source is just an effective mutual benefit collaboration system in areas where nobody is interested in competing anymore. It still is, partially. But I can no longer ignore the former.

@maxmustermann I think you're just seeing a subset. Majority, i think, is straight authoritarian anti-capitalist. Pirate party types that want to take down big tech (and any other rich person).

@Jain @hideki Mr. Jinping clearly appears to have cat ears and an overall blob-like shape. The blanket may be a coverup, to hide his true self.

@maxmustermann My country's pirate party did pretty well in that case. The party leader here was a Playboy model.

@7 It does make sense. I know in the dutch military only a subset (of their already tiny army) is war-ready. The rest is on nato missions, training excersises in other countries or is generally stationed in forgeitn places, vacations, has equipment borrowed out to allies (or sent to ukraine with replacements pending), etc. etc. etc. When risk goes up, everyone scrams back to base and gets ready.Fractional reserve / Just-In-Time attitude is everywhere.

IMO the best programming language right now is C#, but only with a strict "C with classes" set of conventions.C# is amazing, but only because it can simply be "C with classes" (combined with its huge offering of libraries, from microsoft but most importantly community nuget packages)C# allows too much, codebases are too unique to the person who wrote it. C# needs what Go did to C.Go seems to be doing well in the commercial world, so I'm not afraid that a restrictive language harms widespread adoption and library offerings.

New hobby: reading solar panel owners' angry reviews of energy suppliers that do dynamic (hourly) pricing of electricity. They enter a system of high tickrate supply and demand and they realise that their solar panel's output is worthless on the real market. They supply the most at the time of day when electricity is crazy cheap and oftentimes even free. ROI tanks.I hope dynamic pricing becomes a bigger thing. I only just discovered it. It will help people realise that solar panels are worthless without batteries to flatten their output.
