@simon Are we entirely sure that some of these screenshots aren't manufactured? Some of what is being published almost plays too perfectly to "they shipped something self-aware!" narratives.

The thing about using #chatgpt or Google's Bard for general answers, like "define this concept" or "what are some terms of art in this space" is not because excessive accuracy - it is to avoid:* Accept these cookies* Sign-up for our newsletter* Enable notifications* Turn off auto playing video* Being distracted by the chumbox advertising* Finding out the article was ranked high due to shady seo rather than relevant contentThe 'regular' web experience has become so cruddy.

Saw a Reddit post referring to Frank and Karl as "Frog and Toad" and I don't think I've ever needed a spinoff show as two professional, corporate lackeys living it up with their newfound freedom as badly as I do this one.#succession #FrankAndKarl #FrogAndToad #butterMyBeanpole #streaming

I know there was a lot of love for the XMen Fox '90s cartoon (as proven by the XMen '97 revival the family has been enjoying) but an X-Mansion AirBnB? (They put a lot of effort into this. The cell-shading effect alone is impressive.)https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1131867334740957884#streaming #comics #xmen

Jack Dorsey, Twitter, and the API platform lessons to be learned from nearly two decades of strategic pivots. New Net API Notes: https://netapinotes.com/shuttering-the-api-was-the-worst-thing-we-did/#techStrategy #techTrends #twitter #api #netAPINotes #newsletters #ActivityPub

"[The story] is an illustrative microcosm of technology's delicate balance between doing what's best for the business and growing an ecosystem beyond one's walled garden. Twitter's pivots, from open beginnings to its defensive phase (and back again), hint that success is as much about managing change as it is about creating it - a cautionary observation API leaders should heed while building the next great API platform." https://netapinotes.com/shuttering-the-api-was-the-worst-thing-we-did/#Twitter #api #newsletters #amwriting

I just backed TechDirt's founder @mmasnick and his new card game, One Billion Users. It promises to be a competitive card game to build the biggest and best #socialMedia platform. And maybe, just maybe, we might learn a little bit about our current internet affliction in the process. I'm really looking forward to this one. #games #moderationhttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mmasnick/one-billion-users-the-social-media-card-game?ref=thanks-copy

Mountainhead sits with me the same way Don't Look Up does; an darkly satiric, promising start that doesn't quite seem to know where to go or what it wants to say, other than "look at these ridiculous people". Steve Carell is a great Graham/Andreessen mashup and Cory Michael Smith is channeling Zuck/Musk/Bryan-Johnson. But after the end I felt like this could have been so much more. #streaming #movies #cinema https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27cN2_k0JF0

Said much better than I did: "Like the irksome climate-change satire Don’t Look Up... the exaggerated hijinks of Mountainhead reveal a deep self-assurance of its politics that border on smug.... the drama between these billionaires felt frictionless – mostly unchallenged by secondary figures and impervious to other perspectives, at once predictable and insufferable to watch." https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/jun/02/mountainhead-tech-bro-satire-disappointment

Another great point that gets at what I was feeling: "I found it incredibly unpleasant to watch, in a way that made me think about comedy’s limitations as a critique of power when its targets are already more awful and more ridiculous than any fictional version." https://www.vulture.com/article/review-in-mountainhead-the-rich-eat-us.html
