Walked into the credit union today with the pile of checks from pledged members, and deposited $24,000 as the starting funds for the Vermont #RealEstateCoop. More is coming soon, and hopefully we'll collectively own our first property (a commercial condo that will hopefully be the future home of a start-up #coop) within a month or two...its-happening.gif :blobaww: :TwinPines:

Just learned that my severely immune-compromised step mom just passed away this morning. Still waiting on test results, but they suspect it's COVID-19. Which is going to make comforting my heartbroken dad more complicated than it otherwise would be when I drive down tomorrow. Mourning + Social Distancing = :(Keep working to contain this thing. It matters a lot. 💔

Recent idea I'm going to run with for a bit: a #WorkerCoop revolving matching equity fund.Basically, the fund will match 1:1 (or more?) the member shares of worker-members of co-op conversions with an investment of non-voting preferred shares. The shares will pay a dividend equal to the WSJ prime rate, the co-op can buy them back at face value at any time. The proceeds go back into the fund to be used for supporting future co-op buy-outs. ♻️

Was recently reading an article about Baghdad hitting 125F, which is nightmare fuel.It also got me wondering if there are any grassroots #solar #coops in #Iraq that could use some international solidarity? When the temp outside could kill you in a matter of hours, it, having distributed generation to power air conditioning for folks of modest means seems pretty essential...

@LabB, my hackerspace, is going to throw a #solarpunk themed new years #dance party in #btv. When poking around on youtube, most of the explicitly "solarpunk" music is pretty ambienty. Which is cool, but not terribly danceable.So, Fediverse, what songs would you put on a solarpunk dance mix?
