@atoponce Totally fair. I have a pair of Yubikeys; one contains my RSA PGP key, the other, a newer ECDSA key. Fortunately I never had a regularly used DSA key, so haven't hit the problem you're seeing (and I suspect you might not have either, if you'd rotated that key out several years ago; but again, PGP's nature *discourages* key rotation)

@atoponce sigh. Of course it was. Some help text to that effect wouldn't have gone astray!

@atoponce pretty sure pass (and maybe passage) do store history if you initialise a git repo for them. I *think* it detects this and commits changes as it makes them. That does of course require you to actually do the repo initialisation though.

@whataweekhuh Heya, is it easy to update this bot to include an image description? Or is the source code public so I can send a PR?Proposed description:A pane from a Tintin comic:Captain Haddock leans on a table and says "What a week, huh?"To his left, Tintin says "Captain, it's Wednesday"To the right, Tintin's dog, Snowy, drinks from a beer glass(?)@valere

@mjg59 I mean, if they're not legally required to support hardware beyond 2 years, why would they do anything else? 🤷 🤦

@mjg59 I've never actually set up 802.1x, but my impression of its complexity is that it *rarely* makes life easier (but of course, that's relative depending on how difficult your life currently is 🙂 )

I get that when you're working on stuff and not getting paid for it, it can make sense to seek the platforms with the lowest friction and barriers to entry, but between IRC, #Matrix (and by extension, Gitter), and #XMPP, there are plenty of options that don't include vendor lock-in.

@downey I agree with this article in principle, but, like my initial post above (because it's necessarily short and punchy), lacks necessary nuance around the premium of volunteer time. Some folks just want to write code for themselves and then find themselves with other users with whom they need to communicate. I get that it's tempting to pick an easy-to-use, well-known platform with (relatively) good UX, and I don't want to say "always go the whole nine yards and put in the effort to use a truly free platform", because sometimes the barrier to entry is too high, but I strongly encourage people to *try* or at least *consider* the pitfalls of the platforms they choose.@pbone

During "Co-ops: 'Open Source' Capitalism" by Joel Brock (https://2023.fossy.us/schedule/presentation/72/), he mentioned that they host their software with @gitea (an open-source software forge similar to GitHub or GitLab). I'd also recommend people check out @forgejo, which is a "soft-fork" of gitea, for... Reasons™ (https://forgejo.org/faq/#why-was-forgejo-created)#FOSSY

@gitea I'm still concerned that the choice of a Limited company rather than a non-profit org permit and don't adequately address the concerns mentioned in https://discourse.gitea.io/t/a-message-from-lunny-on-gitea-ltd-and-the-gitea-project-blog/6165/2 (which never got a direct on-thread response)

@Codeberg @drewdevault I particularly love:"this was a kind of free speech which was unconsciously contingent on being used for speech with which the listener was comfortable.""The free speech absolutists among the old guard, faced with this discomfort, developed a tendency to defend hate speech and demean speech that challenged them."

After hearing whispers in recent weeks, I just read about the search engine age verification requirements coming into force in Australia on Dec 27.Super concerning how quietly this happened, and ridiculous it can be worked around by … not being signed in!https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-07-11/age-verification-search-engines/105516256
