@EU_Commission as an immigrant from the US to the EU, I like how your social media posts are the only way I learn about things. "What the hell is the EU single market..."

@w3c finally we solved the problem of “nobody makes a unique password” with a solution that is 10x as complicated

Does anyone know of an #IPv6 compatible #SMTP service? #Mailgun and #AWS #SES appear to be IPv4 only. #email #linux

I am devastated that #Zoom has decided to become an #AIhype company and I’m going to have to go back to using #GoogleMeet. As a #firefox user, Google Meet is horrible software. Roughly 20% failure rate, either audio has issues or video quality collapses even on gigabit wired connections from both parties. My dream is #Apple decides to finally offer a cross-platform version of #Facetime group calls which remains the best audio and video quality I’ve ever seen in video conferencing. The 32 user limit would sometimes be a problem, but otherwise it’s really stellar software. If you have a headset that supports spatial audio and you close your eyes, it is like the person is in the room with you. It’s that good.

@jaxter184 When I tried it six months ago-ish on Firefox I found it to have a lot of problems. Issues with screen sharing, where it sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. Twice I wasn’t able to see someone else’s screen, which was a problem. Audio problems as well, with voices sounding echo-y. Tbh similar issues to Google Meet. All of them went away on Chrome. Even if that’s fixed, which let’s assume it does get fixed, the value of Zoom is every company I work with has approved it. Everyone knows how to use it. It’s foolproof. If I throw out Zoom then the default becomes Microsoft Teams for cross-company calls. It just takes forever for large company security teams to approve new software, so with Zoom gone the path of least resistance isn’t “adopt a new software” it’s gonna be “use whatever software we already have approved”. So for calls with Google companies it’ll be meet and with Microsoft companies it’ll be teams.

I don’t understand this fury over linking #helldivers2 to a #psn account. First, every software product I use requires me to link to some centralized account. Also at least on steam deck I was warned, idk, three times before I bought it that this was a requirement? On the store page, on the small text warning and possibly when the game boot the first time. Never have I seen a group get so mad over a complete nonissue.

It's amazing how completely fucked normal people are when it comes to #Microsoft #copilot and understanding what is coming to their computers. This is an actual conversation I had today. T: "I heard Microsoft has a new thing coming that takes screenshots of your screen called Copilot. Do I have that?"M: "That's called Recall and I think it's only coming to Copilot+ computers."T: "Well I already have Copilot. I think I have normal Copilot and Copilot for Office 365."M: "Um I don't think its related to that. For some reason they're calling new laptops Copilot+"T: "My son has Copilot from his programming class. Is that the same as my Copilot?" M: "No that's GitHub Copilot which is a different thing."You couldn't have done a worse job with naming if you tried. Hats off to Microsoft marketing for being so confusing it took a team of people walking through your marketing docs to figure out what unwanted feature is coming to who. #ai #llm

Always feel bad when normal people try to bond with me. Well-meaning fellow American father waiting outside of Danish ballet class: “So what do you think of this art/fashion/music/movie?”Me, a monster: “None of those align with any of my current hyperfixations so mind has erased all information about it. I will now only ask questions about you, forcing you to carry the conversational burden. Then upon leaving this building I will immediately forget your name.”

@twilliability I did it for three months. Basically I carried this and an iPad mini with cellular SIM as a fallback. There were a lot of surprises for me. First paper everything has largely vanished. I had sort of assumed there were analogue fallbacks that had existed when I was younger that really don’t anymore. Maps are digital, ordering at some restaurants is digital, even some hotels assumed I had WhatsApp for check-in. It required a lot of thinking ahead about ensuring I had an acceptable fallback option. Second surprise was that nobody really talks anymore. Public transit is as quiet as a library. Planes, trains, buses are all completely silent. When you can check in and out of an audio cocoon all the time you don’t realize it. You find yourself sitting silently as everyone around you has headphones on watching their phones. Which is fine, but it’s boring. You are bored a lot more, which is nice but also a little strange. Also you miss news, which does have a surreal quality to it because it’s like a psychic message has gone out. Every single person around you instantly knows something has happened and you (obviously) have no idea.

Somehow I purchased like 25 USB-C cables this year and they’re all in use.
