Something for #HigherEducation to consider. Typical procurement practices in #HigherEd (especially public institutions) often fail to include the identification and evaluation of #OpenSource options.Inculding #OSS in the procurement process is a great way to ensure all options are considered.

@apereo This and other US/EU regulations and legislation (see attached) will add significant burden to the open source software created and used by academic and research institutions who now will be required to meet and maintain compliance. For example, Free and Open Source software licenses include a no liability clause, "use at you own risk," but now developers/producers (grantees, labs, faculty. campuses) will need to reaource that work. (Just one example).

Fantastic investment by the Academic eXchange for Information Environment and Strategy and the broader Japanese #HigherEd community to create the #OpenSource Technology Group.Obviously I think their mission and work are applicable to other universities, systems, and consortia, but can anyone tell me why wouldn't other institutions want to invest similarly?(Especially that last part on the slide?)#EdTech #Educause #EdTechChat #HigherEducation
