This has been bugging me for a while: My paper version of the CP/M 3 manuals is starting to fall apart. And the OCRed versions on the web are full of OCR mistakes. So I finally bit the bullet and recreated the whole thing in InDesign. I think it came out quite nicely: https://maciaszek.net/26768/cp-m-users-manual-recreation/#cpm #pdf #manual

@jxself You're right! The mistake is in the original manual as well. 😆 I'll update the PDFs soon

To fill the time until I complete the second CP/M manual, here's the JiffyDOS User's Manual I did years agohttps://maciaszek.net/26782/jiffydos-users-manual/#commodore #jiffydos #manual

@mmu_man there are phishing mails going around in order to take over promimemt youtubers‘ channels. The channels then get renamed to something Tesla/Musk related, the channel‘s previous videos get hidden or deleted and then they broadcast some stupid Elon video. What you‘re seeing might be channels that you previously subscribed to before they got taken over by some Elon fanboys/crypto bros.

Digital Research’s Programmer’s Utilities Guide for CP/M as a cleanly typeset, searchable, and hyperlinked PDF.https://maciaszek.net/26822/programmers-utilities-guide-recreation/This is the 4th and (for now) final part of my modern recreations of CP/M manuals in InDesign. I need a break now.#cpm #manual #programming #retro #retrocomputing

@Ricardus Yes, please! I've been proof-reading it probably dozens of times, but I’m sure I missed many mistakes

Just in case you wanted to experience the first #Fallout games on a modern systemFallout (1): https://github.com/alexbatalov/fallout1-ceFallout 2: https://github.com/alexbatalov/fallout2-ceIt obviously needs game data from the original game (get it on GOG or Steam)

@broadcastsapp I just noticed that the main volume slider has no effect when playing to AirPlay targets. I think Apple's Music app solved this nicely. Changes the volume of all AirPlay targets proportionally. Also the AirPlay icon/button indicates whether AirPlay targets have been selected.Maybe a feature for future versions?

Some time ago I posted a question on Stackoverflow that didn't receive any answers or comments.Last week I added a bounty to that question and shortly before the bounty expired I actually received an answer. The answer didn't solve the problem and didn't work at all. Today I went back to my question and the answer was gone. Did I imagine it? Luckily I had visited the author's profile. I went back in my browser history visited the profile again. Suddenly it makes sense:

Re-played Fallout for the first time in years (maybe decades). In the credits I noticed some familiar names:- Ron Perlman (I knew about his involvement in Fallout)- CCH Pounder- Richard Dean Anderson

I didn't quite comprehend what I had in front of me until I did a disk image of it. Yes, that is indeed a 64 MB (megabytes!) SD card. Where do you even get SD cards with such tiny capacities these days? #C64OS

How does #ESPIDF development with devcontainers work? I tried setting up the hello_world example but it didn't make sense. Here's what happened. After pulling the docker image #VSCode reopened the project in the devcontainer. So far this is the regular devcontainer experience. It then asks me which ESP-IDF to use. And shows a list of my _locally_ installed ESP-IDFs. Why?

OK, I'll play along and choose one of the offered ESP-IDFs. It then just errors out with a “spawn /bin/sh NOENT” and dumps me into a ESP-IDF Setup screen.I choose advanced setup and get a choice which version of ESP-IDF to install... into my _local_ home directory???That's not how it's supposed to work, right?

I've been googling how this is supposed to work. I noticed that my settings.json contained a lot of settings that most people on the web didn't have. Looks like the new project wizard thingy is a bit too overzealous with the settings it creates. All the highlighted settings (see screenshot) were absent in other people's examples.I removed these lines the ESP-IDF Setup actually displayed paths that were _inside_ the container and I was able to install ESP-IDF...

Next hurdle was installing ESP-IDF tools. The setup wizard tries to download the tools to /opt/esp/dist as a non-root user. That directory does not exist though, so it fails.I had to enter the container and create the directory and set permissions manually. Now the tools all got downloaded successfully, but...
