       @killyourfm There are so many important aspects of not having an algorithm. I realised one when I repeatedly got to the end of my feed... that they're not drip-feeding content to get people to doom scroll. It's one of the main reasons I prefer Mastodon.

       @galena @eris then what site does? Every space has content moderation. I mean I'd go as far as saying censoring isn't something that anyone other than a government can do, and that "free speech" is just a buzz word that has no meaning online. Many people in the world don't have the same access to online spaces, so there are people that don't have access to the "marketplace of ideas" that these sites claim to be

       @eris This is a terrible take. Gab is a "free speech space", & I'm not too worried about any leftists accidentally wandering there. The time for "debate about climate change" ended somewhere in the 1990s. "Debating" climate change is about as sensible as debating "the Jewish question." When you debate either, you're not finishing anything; you're just giving legitimacy to the question and introducing the possibility that it's a legitimately asked question.

       @eris @galena @TrellisHugo335 How exactly are they "knocking the concept"? They don't. When right-wingers talk about "free speech", they mean a lack of content moderation. At the centre of your "case" is what the right-wing calls free speech actually is genuine. It isn't.

       @eris @galena @TrellisHugo335 Gab is a sewer, and what you're suggesting is that "leftist instances" become sewers to fight right-wingers. Twitter is better when Graham Lineham isn't on it but is stuck in his sewer. He's a prime example of making a space better by not allowing him on it.
