       The media keep calling #Bluesky federated and decentralised, but it is nothing of the sort! It is currently a centralised, unfederated social network that is actively competing with networks and protocols that are truly open.

       @futurebird The interesting side effect of following as many interesting people as possible (to build your own algorithm) is you absolutely have to create lists for people whose posts you don't want to miss (for example real-world friends, or people whose posts are *especially* interesting or influential on your own thinking).

       @davidculley And do academics not understand the importance of decentralisation and federation, so that people can connect freely without being locked in to a single platform? Bluesky doesn't yet deserve the description of “decentralised” although I'm having increasing success connecting to Bluesky users through Bridgy Fed without having to create my own Bluesky account.
