In Lisbon, Portugal, students occupied seven schools and two universities, forcing one high school to remain closed for 3 days, while students at the University of Lisbon barricaded themselves in the dean’s office.Trqffic also stopped in the Portuguese capital with street blockades in solidarity with the occupations. The sky has been hazy all day where I live in South Central New York state. I thought rain might be on the way, but as the day progressed the sun looked more and more sickly. Then in the early evening I smelled smoke in the air and the haze became a heavy dirty orange. A web search confirmed that the cause is wildfires in Canada's Nova Scotia, about 600 miles to the northeast.
