@bitterblossom @cum @errante why would you waste your time on anything isekai when you could be watching tengoku daimakyou or oshi no ko or literally anything else? keep in mind that an isekai that tries to parody isekai tropes is still an isekai, in fact self-parody has become a cornerstone of the genre, and parodies recursively parodying each other are neither referencing anything real or meaningful, nor saying anything real or meaningful in doing so

@menthol6 @cum @bitterblossom @errante just because much of the anime industry now is full of the same tired tropes and self-referential humor, that doesn't mean you should just consoom it without having any standards. plus there's so much anime, both older and newer, that manages to avoid such trappings, that there's really no excuse for taking dumb time wasting bullshit as a given

@errante @menthol6 @bitterblossom @cum classics like escaflowne, rayearth, and inuyasha could be described as isekai in some ways, but they don't really fit the trappings of the genre as we know it today so even a high fantasy with the "protagonists from our world wander into a fantasy world" premise can be done right imo. i actually love high fantasy, i just hate when it's dumb and bad and mired in cringe otaku/incel tropes. i liked lodoss a lot for instance
